Should it smoke this much?

Parked my '48 J engine whizzer in October and put some gas stabilizer in the tank.

Got on her the other day and after a few pedal she started up right away but it is really burning oil. Just a puffing out the smoke. When I was riding her in the fall I had her running just a bit rich, just a slight trace of smoke.

Do you all think it is the stabilizer that is smoking? I did not touch the adjustment for the rich/lean so it's not that.

Should I burn this gas out and let her smoke?

Should I drain the gas and put new stuff in?

I say just burn it out. I am using a new motor myself and I usually have 30 to one gas with synthetic oil, but my first few tanks I am using 20 to one thirty weight, so it smokes like a chimney. I found that as the engine heats up more, it seems to smoke less at least for me.

if you are going to take the gas out what are you going to do with it ? It might be more environmentally harmful if you just dump it out somewhere. It seemed to me that it is the unburned hydrocarbons that are the most dangerous.

You got to watch some of the stableizers have silicone in them and can gum up things. Best to use Sea-Foam it has everything in it cleaner. Maybe drain half of the old gas and but in some new high octain in it,with a drop of Sea-Foam and see what happens. Use the old gass for cleaning parts untill it evaperates?

I believe he has a four stroke. Not a two stroke.

Best advice, but I would try to find another way to get rid of the old gas. Maybe kill some fire ants.

Mike, the Whizzer is a 4-stroke, not a 2-stroke.
Maxglide - it's probably the stabilizer that is smoking. Add a little fresh gas to see if the smoke thins out or stops altogether.

I agree with the above statements but don't forget to check the crankcase oil level just in case you are burning engine oil.

I agree with this. You may have a stuck piston ring and although most of the time they will eventually loosen back up on their own, play it safe and keep an eye on the crankcase oil. FWIW, using Seafoam will help un-stick the piston ring if that is in fact the problem

put the old gas in your car i do it all the time my gas is 32 to 1 it burns good
