You need an M1 or M2 endorsement on your license. The bike also has to be licensed through the state. It's a one time deal and you are issued a license plate that you MUST have mounted on the bike at all times. There is no yearly registration or anything like that.

I talked to the dmv today around 1pm, the lady said that if the kit im gonna attach to my "beach cruiser" is up to (20MPH) than the test or reg is not needed. now If the gas motor kit goes past 20mph, than yes I need to register and only take the written test, No drive test needed, lol... I was gonna say well I'll be the dude with the beach cruiser in line next to the cycles lol.

thanks for your helpful info.

The lady in the DMV is just plain wrong, they usually are.
The 20 mph is for electric with pedals, not for gas powered
bikes like ours.

I have been hashing this out for about 2 years. Also know
lots of guys that got tickets in CA.
Just got pulled over for the first time in over 3000 miles
by Huntington Beach's finest on a motorcycle.
Guess what he wanted?
To see that I had at least a M2 on my C class. One of the 3 of
us got a fix it type ticket because he had no M extension.

Most DMV employees and cops DO NOT KNOW much about motorized bikes.
You are wasting your time asking them anything.

This is probably better info given here than most, but I must say, for an intro post, Wow......I am closing the thread. Try the laws and legislation forum if you are unclear about anything. "Hash" it out there.
