What is Bogging?

bogging is exactly what the word sounds like.
when your engine "bogs" it loses power and is sluggish, won't rev up. just like when you get bogged down when you're tired..no energy to do anything.
usually bogging is caused by an air-fuel mixture that is too lean and the bog will occure at wide open throttle / higher rpms. a bog can also be caused by too rich of an air-fuel mixture, and normally that will happen at lower rpms. the engine will not seem to have much power and it will take a while for it to build rpms.

It will also occur if you have a air leak somewhere like a inlet manifold or exhaust manifold.

exactly. An intake manifold air leak will cause the engine to run lean which will cause bogging. also, if the jetting is too small it will also run lean, causing it to bog too.
A leak at the exhaust manifold gasket will not cause bogging....just an oily leak, and some noise.
A plugged muffler/baffle will cause bogging because it will reduce the exhaust flow.

LoL

I actually watched a friend take a couple shots at the muffler on his old cadillac with a .38spl... it helped!

I dunno... mebbe the caddy was just scared at where the next one was gonna be...

LoL

and I seen THAT, too... three blasts to the center of the hood on a mustang...
bad carbonizer, bad.

Got a lot of edgy friends/associates...
