hey guys
my muffler over heats to the point of discoloration
i am kinda stuck
i think its too lean
but i have the carburetor pin on all the way rich
what do i do???

the question is...does it RUN like its too lean? dont jump at shadows :p

when blocked they can heat up a bit...

so should i take apart the engine and check for gunk
its a new muffler too
so i dont think the muffler is cloged but the engine could be?

It is a catalytic muffler or a straight-through?
Catalytic muffler WILL get hot, since it has to get hot to clean the emissions out of the exhaust.
Or it could just be a crappy muffler and is discoloring due to engine heat.

its a new muffler
a banana shaped one
i also noticed
it makes a pop pop pop pop and then when i up the rpm the popping is faster
but when i max my speed it sounds alot cleaner and runs better without the popping at all?
any thoughts:geek:

Ah, expansion tube.
Have you tightened your exhaust nuts yet?
I am really thinking exhaust leak.

The chrome WILL discolor if it is chrome, that is just the way it is.
Check out most Harley's, their exhaust usually isn't perfect.

yeah i dunno
im paranoid
my las muffler "the stock muffler"
i smacked on a curb then it got run over
so i banged it back in place and spot welded but it fell apart at a higher point
and so i got a new one
its nice
but im very cautious of this one
it heats up preety good
and the spark plug boot it holds together
but the threading for the metal component on the rubber is worn from the heat
so i dont know if this is normal or
not i think it may be too hot
???

I understand most of this post but.....what?!

As long as it runs fine, you should be fine.
Pull your spark plug and look at the coloring.
If its like a light-medium brown you should be ok.

i love this guy
he writes so well
its almost like haiku or shakespeare
perhaps

i like it :D

so about the boot
sparkplug boot
throw it away!
get an NGK!
boot that is.
from an old motorbike
it just unscrews!
from the lead.
and the box.
black box.
replace the lead and boot.
trouble free for ever more. :)

dont worry about the pipe.
purple is cool :)
and blue is too
glowing red isnt so good

and yes, check your plug.
at the point.
electrode
should be light brown. almost to white.
and then it is right :)

wee :)
