"bike glow" rope light thing

I know that under-lights for cars are supposed to be illegal here in Milwaukee, but you still see them.
A GOOD headlight and a GOOD tail light would probably do more good than this rope light thing, but I still posted it because it's interesting

That is neat but runs on batteries, and may not be reflective when not powered. Looks cool though, and seems to be made for long-term use (waterproof with remote battery case) It is $25. I like it. Thanks for the tip. Looks like a good option for non-permanent use (can move to other bike or backpacks).
There are paint-matched tape sets available that glow like that under street lights and car headlights, for about $20 for one 1 frame and fork decals. They are supposed to be nearly permanent, and can be had in stripes or spirals.
Here is one company offering "pin stripe" tape as well as thicker tape, says for automotive and motorcycle use as well as bicycle.
Personally, I just buy DOT style reflective tape (like you see on diesel truck trailers) from the farm store and cut small pieces of it for "weightless" wheel reflectors (make short "flags" on the spokes), helmet tape, and a couple pieces on the frame.

I would assume that it is NOT reflective at all. If there are laws against wrapping it on a bike frame, you might be able to get away with wrapping it around your waist or crossways over your shoulder across your body... Not that I am advocating "do illegal things", but wrapping it around your body might be "not illegal" because you aren't modifying the vehicle...

Hey RedBaronX, I'm not sure about Milwaukee law, but lighting laws come mostly from the Fed's so most states should be close to the same on this.
In California as long as there's no red light in front or a white light in back you're OK. It sounds like in Milwaukee you can't use a blue light anywhere.
If you can't run those kinds of lights in Milwaukee, then all the truckers, and most of the cars on the road should take off the yellow and orange side running lights.
So go with yellow, orange, green, purple or any color except red, white or blue and you should be fine.

the nuclear glow....
i purchased 2 of these neat things from walmart. they fit in your spokes next to the rim like elongated reflectors do. press the bubble and they eluminate a real bright neon green, unless the person is blind, there is no way you can't be seen. they are definitely an eye catcher.

I've seen them. A friend of mine has been using them for a few months now on his regular pedal bike. They come in a few different colors, and even one that changes colors.
