Help me decide which setup to go with!!

Well, its a little too late for that now, I am almost finished with the build. I rode it for the first time friday....what a blast!!!! I still have a few odds and ends to button up, but I will post some pics when I'm done.

Oh I guess I missed that part of the post...sorry haha!!
What are you getting for a top speed do you know?

Wow almost my Exact situation!! im also about to drop big coin on a Tanaka GEBE kit or a honda gxh 50 with Staton, only problem is Now that i got the cash I cant find the PF4000 Gebe kit, only the 33? cc and the Robin EH035 is O.O.S. and staton raised the EHO35 engine almost $100!! Im wondering Where you found the gxh 50, cant find one ANYWHERE!

After re-reading this post today I went on staton-inc.com and saw that they have the tanaka 40cc engine for sale. You can get the engine from them and get the engine mounting kit from GEBE if you like the belt drive / rack mount better. I'm pretty sure that mounting kit from GEBE includes the clutch converter you'd need...just tell them what size clutch when you order it. At $719.00 total...it's not a bad deal at all. If you do decide to go with the GEBE consider buying the heavy duty rim on their site. At $124.00 is well worth the peace of mind you get when you're buzzing around at 35+ mph.

I got my gxh50 from smallenginewarehouse.com. They were sold out when I checked one day, and the next they had 8 so I went ahead and got one. Anyway, I really like this setup but it's pretty heavy. The staton gearbox is alot heavier than I thought it was gonna be. But riding it, I can't tell how much weight is back there, just wind in my face!! I went with the 16.07 to 1 gear box with 16 tooth sprockets. I got it toped out at almost 36mph. But I have not even put 5 miles on it yet, and have knobby tires and all. I also don't know how fast this engine should turn, the website says 7k, but I have also heard somewhere it should turn 8k rpm. I maxed it out around 7250 rpm so far. I would love to tighten that governor spring a bit if I knew it wouldn't hurt anything!

Wes if thats a new honda I wouldn't be maxing it out till at least 250 miles on the clock.

I will try to take it easy for the first little bit!!! One of the things that has been taking me so long is I did not like the exhaust coming out the front. I bent and welded a pipe on the muffler, so now the exhaust is in the rear. I covered the exhaust pipe with header wrap so it wouldnt burn me if I touched it. Looks pretty cool I guess, I will get some pics up soon.

Ok, here it is. I still lack a few things but I guess its far enough along to show it off a bit!!! What do you guys think??

I love the look of it...it's nice and clean. What a beast too. I'm surprised you're getting that kind of top end with all that weight and the knobbie tires. Do you know how much the bike weighs? How much do you weigh? I'm just curious to know if I'd get the same top end if I built one with the same engine. I wonder if there is a frame mount that would work with that?

I'm sure you'll get years of reliable use out of it. Those segmented engine straps with the bolt half way would make me a bit nervous though. I know that on mine (I have the GEBE kit) the vibration caused the bolt that attached the engine strap to the frame to sheer off while I was riding. Just be careful and check all those bolts each time you ride to make sure they are tight. if you can build in a little back up in case one of those bolts snap.

Im not sure what the bike weighs, its heavy though. I weigh 210 lbs. I really dont even have to pedal at all either, I could just hit the gas n go but I have been pedaling just to keep my clutch cool.

Looks great but I suggest taking off that stock tank and putting a HT tank on the frame tube so the engine looks a bit smaller and the weight would be better distributed. A question too what kind of throttle are you using?
