Are all "HT" motors the same

All about the same, around 4 different companies make them. They are all a **** shot. With minor mods you can get a number of useful hours out of them.

Yup, it's like a Chinese lottery. You can get 2 engines from the same company, maybe made in the same factory, came off the assembly line next to eachother - and they may act like totally different engines.

I think I might just have to give this whole HT bike experience a try it sounds like a blast I just hate for it to only last a week or two, so most kits are "equals" and it is shop for the "best" price then? I see them as low as $175 or so

Funny....thats just what I said a couple months ago. Now I'm at a Stinger 66cc,SBP shift kit,on a Schwinn 21 spd Mtn , waiting for Rock Solid to get back to me about a reed valve kit, and Im either going to mill my head down a little or get a slant head to up compression just a touch..lol.Be prepared to spend a little time turning wrenches to stay mobile but they are a blast. In other words....welcome to our addiction! Motor safe and have fun.

Heh Heh Chinese Lottery lol. I don't do well with gambling. Darn local Tribal casino's here I think are a sin and I've never supported them.

For me here unless a H.T. was totally carefully overhauled torn down and some kind of a attempt at blueprinting. Start over with better bearings etc It's been 1 in 5 that lasted untouched.

The differences I have found in these engines is not on the outside but inside, I have two bikes with different engines. I have been inside both and have to say my grubee 48cc was much better than my ebay engine. The ports were clear of casting slag, the piston cleared the intake port fully and the bearings are high quality. The 48cc ebay engine needed port burrs removed and piston skirt trimming to clear the intake port.
