Cruisers U.S. Cruiser Bicycle Project on Kickstarter - Day Seven: Featured Component – Internal Eight Speed Drivetrain!

For those of you following our project on Kickstarter, today we are checking out a very unique feature that is often not found on a cruiser bicycle – multiple gears! Historically cruiser bicycles were built for leisurely riding on boardwalks that were predominantly flat and the initial thought was a single speed was sufficient. But if you were to encounter any incline whatsoever, your leisurely ride quickly became a strenuous workout. Not a bad thing, but not what most cruiser riders expected. And if you wanted to ride any distance or over any more severe terrain a cruiser was not necessarily a great fit. Also in the past, most multi-gear bicycles used a multi-cog freewheel and a derailleur, which had a habit of going in and out of adjustment easily and was a pain to maintain, especially if it got bumped or dropped. But today’s better solution is a multi-gear internal hub in which all the shifting takes place inside the hub – no multiple cogs and no derailleur for switching gears. The Cruisers U.S. Suspension cruiser has been engineered to accept and comes standard with a high quality, Shimano Nexus internal 8 speed hub and twist shifter. So this way you can ride in comfort with eight speeds to suit any terrain or situation you encounter.

I have seen that bike a thousand times . its nothing new different , or unusual , The turning radius stinks and your pricing is too high.
maybe the cali market is different , but in the Midwest , that bike is a dog.

Guess you haven't read about the bike or you wouldn't have made the comments you did. This bike has never been in the market and it rides great. And many of the features built into the bike have never been built into ANY other production cruiser. Perhaps you have it confused with something else. Either way we invite you to take another look. We just thought, as we stated in our initial post, that this approach might be of interest to anyone on the forum who was considering Kickstarter as a platform to launch a new design or product in the bike industry. And just so you know, we do not expect, nor have we received any monetary support from any members of this forum to our knowledge.

Not to throw a wet blanket on this project but, motorizing this one would need some sort of inovative chain tensioner due to the suspention rear end. Agree?

We do already have a chain tensioner on the prototype and we discuss in the project overview and we are also considering changing to a jackshaft once we go into production. We appreciate your feedback!
