Muffler Question

pedalman, here is a quick and easy way to silence it more:
buy a can of food that is a bit larger diameter than your muffler
cut the top off and put some slits in it about an inch long (use tin snips)
put about 12 holes in its sides about 1/8" diameter
stuff it with metal scouring pad
use hose clamp to secure it to the muffler
paint it and put a flames sticker on it !

Hey Jagaur , So I downloaded the plans for that pipe you have on your page and took it to work and burned it out on the plasma table there and shaped it ,found an old metal chair cut it apart ,made a flange for the head and welded it all up !!! Well it's not pretty like yours but it works ,and works great !!!!!! I'm going to make a second one out of 20 gauge sheet metal ,I used 22 ga. and was in to much of a hurry to get it done !!! When I made the first pipe ,I had made a temp-let so I can just do it all at home !!! Work kinda frowns on stuff we make at work !!!!!! Great pipe and loud and I love it !!!!!!! Thanks !!!!!!!

If you took my advice and made the belly exit version you would have half the noise and a bit more torque. But anyway I'm glad someone made one. Post your results on the post about the torque pipe. :)
I'm just now finishing the plans for the stealth silencer. Go to the post about it to see where to download it from.

Thanks for advice jaguar, I was thinking I first want to try glass packing the stock muffler a bit and see if there is any difference, and a new muffler gasket as I wrecked the factory supplied one and had to cut another one and didn't think it fit perfectly...but otherwise I go with yours, though hopefully I have enough clearance at the bottom of muffler and ground.

Fiberglass in silencers are not in the route of main gas flow. When put in the main flow, which is what you are proposing, then it gets pushed by the force of the flow which screws things up. Try just putting metal scouring pad in there which has more resistance to being moved.

OK I put the stainless steel wool in stock muffler---it definitely quiets the muffler but now I hear a different sound when driving---it's either the clutch or gearing in the motor, but it's seems louder than motor as when I pull in the clutch and hear pure idling motor as I coast I don't hear that other sound, then when letting clutch engage motor I hear that weird, almost scraping sound---any ideas?

Put on the booster bottle also for smoother running, but this sound was before booster bottle.

Again any ideas?

Update, tried packing muffler with fine mesh steel wool, too fine I think,it made motor not able to idle smoothly, harder starting,no good. Repacking with the regular steel wool.

steel wool is to fine try ... Copper pot scrubber package at your local $1 store

Just to let people know, the pot scrubber steel wool worked fine.

In the stock muffler is a small tube running out to outlet hole, I also stuffed that small tube rather loosely with about half inch of steel wool sticking out and took a small hose clamp fastening that loose end to outlet tube so it wouldn't blow out. I am SO much happier with my gas motor as when I idle it's nice and quiet, before I would always cut the engine when approaching people so as not to scare them.
