It seems everything has already been invented, because after i made a simple modification to the right hand side chain tensioner, i come across flanged (ball bearing) idler wheel options for the SBP R.H.S chain tensioner.

I wouldn't have bothered solving the problem myself if knowing about Teracycle flanged idler wheels which also have an added design benefit by being fitted with a captive chain bar to prevent the chain from moving past the extremities of the sprocket flanges.

The right hand side chain tensioner will now be modified to take a much better looking (professionally presented) Teracycle idler wheel.

My attempt is a poor imitation of a properly designed product.

These are just the job! Definitely much less risk of trouser chewing or chain coming off the tensioner than the standard equipment. :D Nice find Fabian!

I like the way they've used them on the final drive chain too, with the ability to slide side-to-side to accomodate gear changes.

Where did you find these, Fabian? Goggling it I'm coming up with nothing but some recycling company and recumbent forums mentioning this from 2004, but with broken web links. :(

EDIT: Never mind, found it! http://t-cycle.com/idlers-chain-management-c-41/idlers-c-41_9/ $67 each wheel for the small idler wheels (no mounting hardware) though, ouch!

but this is the most important part that should be attached to the idler wheel to prevent """any chance""" of the chain popping out of the flanges:

Posting simultaneously again haha. I found it eventually but thanks. :)

Yeah I'm not sure the flanges are even neccesary with the use of the chain keeper (bar passing over the top of the idler) in your second link, we're talking about using on the final drive chain below the chainstay, aren't we? I am not swayed from my idea of using old derailleurs, lol. Only maybe I could use flanges like the excellent ones you made for your RHS tensioner if they do turn out to be neccesary. :)

Imagine how good the right hand side chain tensioner would """look""" if these "mag wheel" idlers were attached to the tensioner, but in anodised red or blue !!!

One hot ticket item.

I will take flanges over a chain keeper any day of the week, but i'll take both design concepts if i have the chance to install them together as a complete engineered package.

No, i am referencing all of this material in relation to the SickBikeParts Right Hand Side Chain Tensioner idler wheels.
