Tanaka pf40 vs Honda hx35

I am considering a Honda gxh 50 friction drive as opposed to a gx35 crankshaft kit, if someone could convince me the 50 had enough power to a 2-mile long 3% grade, I used to do it with my rs35, but very slowly.Apparently the crankshaft kit has NO problem with hills through gearing.

I rode the Station Robin 35cc for years -- up some pretty good hills with very little pedaling
just got a new kit -- Station friction Honda 50
a sweet little engine with a nice pack of power ( I won't be peddling much on hills anymore)
3% grade considering body weight and roller size (should be no problem) all day long

I am trying to decide between the two, obviously the f/d is simple, I do like the versatility of the crankshaft kit, both about the same price.I just don't know which way to go yet.Hard choice.

170-180lbs depending on season !!

I've got both. A GX35 on a shiftkit and a PF-4000 on a GEBE. This is what the versus is about. Tanaka: Made in Japan but loud vs. Honda GX35 Made in Thiland but quiet. I haven't had the GEBE setup long enough yet to tell you which one I like best. I weigh in at around #180

i am trying to decide on ghx 50 f/d or gx35 shift kit, I like the sk more, just seems really versatile.He says the new 16.07 to 1 gearbox os really quiet ?? How is yours ?? Lrjerry says he does not use the chain tensioners and has had no trouble at all, he uses the rear mount as an adjustment mechanism, sounds like a good idea, less wear, less noise I would think......Thanks.

I've had a staton gearbox before. It was one of his earlier ones though. a 6.9:1. He only put bearings on one side of one of the gears though and there was gearbox failure. It was also noisy. The gearbox I have now on my shift kit is a $29.99 5:1 pocket bike tranny and it has bearings on both sides of both gears in the gearbox and is not as noisy as my staton gearbox was. If your going to get a noisy staton gearbox you might as well get a loud engine that is made in Japan. Before I bought one of his gearboxes though axle mount or rack mount. I would contact him first and make sure he has support bearings on both sides of the gears though.

Was there a lot of metal fabrication involved in making those parts go ?? Was the tranny purchased on ebay ??
