Mongoose Beast Front Disk Brake MOTO-GOOSY

IMG_20131120_094808_811.jpgJust finished the first prototype Front Disk Brake mount for our Mongoose Beast. Whew, lots of problems but it's looking good. Will post some pictures and test report soon. Made a hub adapter to accept brake disk that locates off the hub, then the caliper adapter clamps around the fork tube.

Moto-Goosey Jack Shaft

Tomtruly, I am in the process of motorizing a Mongoose. A lot of ideas on jackshaft to offset chain, Any pointers, how about a few pics of your jackshaft.....Thanks
This is the second iteration. Not much space to work with. Reluctantly had to remove lower screw boss on engine clutch lever cover to make room for engine chain. I figure I can tie it into the magneto cover somehow. Originally thought I could simply clamp jack shaft housing around seat tube. Unfortunately it clamped the tube so tightly, seat was not adjustable. Had to weld a bracket to seat tube to lock jack shaft housing in place. I'm using 1/2" shafting to minimize space required for bearings. Not happy with bearings, may have to fab third iteration and clean up dimensions a bit more.

My plans at the moment are to install another BB where the original one is,(but 2" narrower) using 5/8 jackshaft.. stretch the frame sixteen inches so I can lower the engine to line up with jackshaft, move the original BB forward, and build a springer. Just gathering materials at the moment.

What fat tire Mongoose are you guys talking about?
My $200 Mongoose came with front and rear discs and a 7-speed, and I put a 1KW electric to the 7-speed pedal side.

Just curious as to what this new expensive part is for is all.

that's a dolomite, this is for a beast. they're different bikes.
I guess my question would be why buy the Beast when you can get the Dolomite for the same price with dual discs on it?

A better fat tire bike option for a gas engine is the Sun Crusher, it has dual V-brakes and a cavity that liked a jackshaft.

I understand the desire to shove things where they have no business being just to do it, but to purposely buy the worst bike to motorize when there are other options just seems silly to me.

I agree with you KC. However I had bought the Beast and started cutting it apart before I found this forum, and wasn't aware of thoughts on better brakes. I am somewhat more informed now. I will have to work with what I have for now. By the way KC you have done some very nice builds. Keep up the good work.

sometimes there aren't other options. a lot of people just get what they can, the bike I motorized was a cheapo from a yard sale

This add-on disc brake idea is pretty cool. Having not seen any option except buying new rims with disc already on them, this comes as very appealing.
