yes , when i first made the stand i would just use a wooden block and propped up the rear of the bike frame, but now i have a "motorcycle wheel cleaning stand" ($20) from harbor freight , its has two rollers on it kinda like a dyno.
I use a Parktool stand. I just put all the way down so it's not that bad to left the rear end up and slip the seat post in the clamp and lift the front with one hand and tighten the clamp down.
Even at it's lowest setting it's plenty high enough to most maintenance items and upgrades.
