So who here has been pulled over on a MB?

I had another question about sharing lanes with cars and bike lanes. Is it ok to ride in car lanes if your MB has a speed of 35mph? Also is it ok to drive an MB in a bike lane? They aren't very clear about this on the CA DMV website. I would imagine I would need plates, registration etc. to drive it in car lanes. Maybe even an M2 license/permit?

I've also heard of 49cc or bigger engines are not street legal. Is this true? If so it would proabably make it impossible to get it registered, licensed etc. which would really suck because I want to drive this thing in car lanes the most. Would it be possible to legalize a 49cc MB in California? I want to avoid getting my MB impounded/ticketed as much as possible.

First, I have have never been to CA and I do not know their laws pertaining to cars, trucks, motorcycles, and motorized bicycles.

But I do know this: there is no such thing as a "car lane". They are "travel lanes" for all legal vehicles.

Actually I wonder if you can be ticketed for using a Bike lane with a LEGAL Tagged Motorized Bike. It sure makes sense but you never know. The Spandex Crowd might object.

You can be ticketed using a Tagged Motorized Bike in a bike lane. Your bike might be registered and tagged in Florida but that doesn't make it Legal. The DMV messed up when they allowed your bike to be legally registered in Florida.

You do need a moped or motorcycle license and a license plate, no annual registration though just a one time fee of 20 bucks when you apply for your plate. It's actually pretty easy and you can do it all by mail by completing a simple DMV form self certifying your bike meets 4 requirements. Your MB has 2 or 3 wheels, less then 4hp, full auto transmission with a maximum speed of 30mph on flat road and working pedals unless it's powered only by electric, in which case pedals are optional. There is nothing limiting you to 49cc in California's law,

Yes you know all. My bike is as legal as it gets. You are the one who is messed up. Roflmao

Your bike should not be legal and gives a bad rap when you are driving a tagged MotorBicycle with 6.5 hp and goes over 30mph and then want to run it in the bike lane. I have a 1.6HP engine and it doesn't go over 30mph but I do not want to register or tag my Motorbicycle. I would like to ride it in the bike lanes though untagged.

Good to know. I dug up the specs of the kit I'm getting. Heres what it says on BicycleEngines.com:
Engine TypeAir-cooled 4-Stroke OHV Single CylinderMax Power(kw/r/min)1.5 KW / 2 HP / 6800Fuel Consumption(g/kw·h)≤480Fuel Consumption(L/h)0.78LWA(dB(A))101Net Weight(kg)7Displacement(cc)49.1Fuel Tank Capacity(L)--Oil Capacity(mL)250Ignition SystemTCICompression Ratio7.4CarburetorFloatStarting SystemRecoilApproximate DimensionsHeight - 9 1/2", Width - 11", Length - 9"

BicycleEngines.com says it has a top speed of 35 mph and they sell a 50 tooth drive sprocket I was thinking of getting that can increase the MB's speed up to 40 to 45 MPH. I guess I can get away with a faster MB in the CA MB registration form as long as I don't speed and follow the usual traffic laws. And I'm sure the cops couldn't care less as long as I have a head light that's always on, front and back turn signals and a tail light/brake light & mirrors. Cops typically don't look twice at motorcycles, scooters and mopeds in most areas but you never know. I'm going to do everything I can to make it street legal. Anyone know of a good source for quality turn signals and other lights? I've seen what amazon.com has but allot of their turn signals seem to be sub par quality and probably aren't even DOT approved. I might just save up some extra cash and see if a motorcycle shop can wire something together to make my MB street legal.

First of all you must be the jealous type. You have no idea how fast I ride. Then I said for safety reasons I think it is safer tro be in a bike lane but didn't know if ANY motorized bike can do that legally in Florida. Third there are many Guys who pass of 66cc and 80 cc China Engines as 49 ccs. I comply with the 49 cc rule. you have no idea even how to measure Brake Horsepower and neither does the DMV. Your the only one who seems concerned. Worry about yourself.
