Largest displacement friction dive? Or most HP?

My Station Honda 50 rear friction drive delivers all one would ever expect or want in a very nice riding motorized bicycle. Top speed is around 35 MPHIL and this rig never breaks down. I want to ride and not repair.

Hey Mountain Man , I've got a Staton 50 FD over with David right now getting converted over to his pedal axle shift system. Can't wait to get it. I've been crippled from doing some of my backpacking trips and canoe trips without a reliable drop off vehicle. Plan to use it on some of my hanggliding adventures too. In fact the winds are soarable right now at one of my local mountains and I'm bumming!

That's cool. Will your motor stay in the same place (on the rack) or be moved. I guess that you live close to David ?

My first friction drive from them was the Subaru 35cc and now the Honda 50cc.
Been riding these for around 8 years now. (Strong with no break downs).

Sounds to be exciting for you there --have fun.

David's a 4.5 hour drive from my home so I can get there by lunch and back home before dark. Here in the rural south everything's a bit of a drive away, but we learn to love the land and it's forests. Been to big cities, can't say I'd like to live in one. Neat to visit though. I'd love to do the PCT out there in your state. My son got to Fly out and do half dome last October, which messed up our plans to do a 180 mile backpacking trip up in NW Arkansas on the Ozark Highland Trail.
The motor will be rear rack mounted as normal on a Specialized Hard Rock 29er. I have a China toy on my son's 26 inch cheap mountain bike which opened my eyes to the possibility of building a reliable drop vehicle for my adventure hobbies. Might even grab me a single wheel trailer for some long rides. I've already got a bunch of ultralight camping gear.

John Muir hiked the Yosemitee area in his 80's! One of our hikers in NW Arkansas did the AT after he retired at 65. Though he did remark that if he could do it over again, he'd have done it at an earlier age!

2old2learn, do you mind if I ask you about Staton? It sounds like you have spoken with David recently.
I ordered a FD kit from him last Thursday (4/23). The friendly guy who took my order had a young voice, so I assumed that wasn't Dave. I was told that the kit would go out at the latest on Friday, and when I questioned my bank, Staton had posted the purchase that day. It didn't go through on their end, or David withdrew the order.
I had no message as to why that was, and nobody answers their phone when I've tried to call. I left a message yesterday before I knew that the payment wasn't posted, requesting a tracking number and I left my email address, but I've received no communication from Staton at all.
It was people like you on the forum who gave me confidence to try this FD. I'm disappointed that it won't happen, but a little relieved, too because something didn't feel right, and some of the postings others have made about unresolved problems with Staton gave me reason to worry about having used my debit card (I'll never be that stupid again...) I had to change my debit card today because I don't know what happened and don't want some scammer having access to my bank info, if that's a possibility.
All I can guess is that either he doesn't want my money or the business is going under. Some communication on his part would have been nice.
Is there another manufacturer of decent FDs today?

David has a young man working with him handling paper work. I know David has been swamped with orders. I have every reason to believe that David is a good man, a man that can be trusted. You may have better success by calling him.

Well, that's the problem. Nobody answers when I call.
I have a funky phone that doesn't identify the phone number of those who leave voice mail messages. I've received a few since last week where the person hangs up and says nothing. If that was Staton, I assumed that he would say something like, "Hello, this is Dave Staton and we may have a problem with your order.... please call us as soon as possible so that we can get this shipment out to you..."
If he can't or won't do that for some reason, I guess I will look elsewhere for a motor. If he doesn't want my business, I won't give it to him. Unfortunately, I think that now I will need a better car/better non-motorized bicycle combo because I don't know of FD vendors I can trust, and I don't want to wrench more than ride. It just isn't as much fun/isn't convenient putting the bike on the train/bus rather than riding it everywhere I need to go, especially when NM winds kick up in the afternoons.
