what can you do to get the best out of your 2 stroke motor?

I have a 2 stroke 80cc motor and I was wondering what are some cheap things to do to get the best performance out of it. Any suggestions for speed?

My ideas:

Run a oil mix of anywhere from 25:1 to 32:1.

Get a good sparkplug: NGK B6HS does great.

Use heavy duty motormounts to lock the motor down tight. Check your connections often!

Make sure your exhaust is supported by more than just the two exhaust studs on the engine block.

Chuck the stock air filter! You can rig a simple plastic/rubber enclosure around the intake that will let your motor breath and run steady at 6000 rpm.

If you really want big top end speed, run a smaller rear sprocket. But not too small: 41 or 40 is probably best for city riding.

Use flat resistant inner tubes for your tires.

Forgive me. For I'm going to give you just the opposite advice from what you really want.

I might not have even given this answer. Since you don't need me to tell you not to do something that you want to do. But I'll go ahead and do it for the sake of others who might read this.

Don't try to improve performance. Go slow. You'll live longer.

And it's still a lot of fun.

I am with BGW. Everybody wants to know how fast these things go. The important thing to do is GO! Whether it cruises at 22mph or 29mph, that's not a big difference. Just get the thing running smoothly and reliably and every ride will be a blast.

I read this on a motorcycle site: it a lot more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow! I agree and this certainly applies to motorbikes.

doing 50 miles per hour is all well and good but not a one of these engines will last very long like that. My suggestions would be to correct the transfers by putting little ramps on the top of the piston, polishing the exhaust port, balancing your crank, putting an aftermarket CDI on it, and putting a good quality expansion chamber on it (not a cheapo from ebay, you want something like a CR80 expansion chamber (not bolt on) or an arrow snake pipe (bolt on). Any crazier than that will kill your reliability

and of course nothing will get you around a track faster than good brakes, so if you splurge anywhere make it there. it's good for both safety and lap times.

the cheapest mod is making your own intake extension for more down low power, that and using glass and sandpaper to plane your head and cylinder mating surfaces because otherwise you have compression loss and therefore power loss

Title of thread is [what can you do to get the best out of your 2 stroke motor?]. Answer is, grenade it while your 4 stroking on by!

yeah 4 strokes are more reliable but also less powerful and hard to modify for more power
