Hi guys, i'm planning on buying an electric scooter for my kid an ezip 4.5. it has 2 x 12v 7ah battery and i was wondering if it would be possible to replace it with 2 x 12v 10+ah battery to increase its range. its current range as advertised is 5-8 miles per charge, if i was to replace the batteries with 10ah how much distance would it cover, approximately of course.

Are the 12V batteries in parallel for 14Ah @12V, or in series for 7AH @ 24V?

Regardless it is only 168W, little kid plastic riding toy power.

Are you looking to 'replace' batteries on order? Or after you already have them?
If you have them, don't waste them.
You can add as many same voltage batteries as you want in parallel, and yes it will extend the range.

A 12V 7Ah battery sounds like a Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery.
AKA your cars battery just smaller and less powerful, and you know how little it takes turning a starter motor before the battery is dead.

Hopefully you are not stuck with a 12V system, if it's 24V and you want to improve the bike a Lithium Ion 'bottle battery' would make for good replacement.
~$300 with a charger and it will pack ~twice the punch for the same size and weight.
 
The 10 ah SLA batteries will be bigger and heavier than the 7ah. Check the measurements to be sure they will fit.

KCvale, it's in series so 7ah @ 24v it's not such a bad system. I'm going to get the scooter new with stock batteries but i'm planning on upgrading the batteries so it could go farther. yes, SLA, would've wanted a lithium ion setup but that's too expensive for now. if i did upgrade it to 10ah @ 24 v, would i need a new charger or can i use the stock charger? It'll take longer i suppose.

wheelbender6, yeah it will be bigger but i hope it's not that big. if so, i'll just find a way to fit it in :) i think the added weight and dimensions will be worth it, an added mile or two is well worth the compromise.

Watts = Volts * Amps.
You can't change the 24V, but you give it more Amps.

Amp Hour ratings are not actual Amps it can produce, it is how many amps it can produce continuously for an hour.

The battery above can put out 15A continuous and 30A Instantaneous Maximum Discharge Current.
Not bad for a 6# battery.

Put it on a back rack or where the water bottle goes if you have that and put it in parallel with what you have and you you'll have some real distance.
