Ticking sound is scaring me

I hate clicker torque wrenches - with the cheap china steel, one can't feel & see how smoothly torque is increasing while tightening - torsion bar wrenches are better for that because you'll see torque going flat well before you damage the threads

Agreed, mine is torsion bar as well, but not cheap and even a cheap clicker is better than just guessing.

do what makes you feel good. I'm not stripping threads, warping anything, or losing compression so I'd say my torque values are close enough.

I'm a mechanic with over 30 years of high performance engine blueprinting experience and the art of extracting every drop of power from engines is what makes me tick and take it from me - every fastener (ie nut, bolt, screw etc) on every engine ever designed has a specific torque setting. There are several reasons for this and one is the allowance for distortion for when components change shape when placed under physical stress in certain manner. So by using a good quality torque wrench, you can prevent excess distortion of components which in turn can prevent excess wear of certain components such as bearing caps or piston rings.

A good example to demonstrate the importance of torque settings of components is the process of 'torque plate honing - this is where a torque plate - a dummy head with large openings allowing the honing tool to access the cylinders whilst the torque plate is torqued onto the cylinder block to replicate the condition when the engine is fully assembled. In another words, the cylinders are intentionally distorted by the torque plate for the honing process. This is just one of the many processes involved when blueprinting performance engines to extremely high tolerances and this would not be possible without a good quality torque wrench.

I have a pair of Snap-On digital torque wrenches (1/2 inch & 3/8 inch) that I swear by when assembling my engines. These retail at $800+ a piece and vibrate like a mobile phone when you arrive at the preset torque setting... it's insane stuff.

I'm living in Turkey even mechanics don't have a torque wrench. I really don't care about torquing but if i did i would measure the length of the wrench use and measure the weight applied to it while tightening and you have your torque value. For me its kg/meter

Lol the torque wrench is probably the mechanics' primary tool. Any mechanic should... no MUST have one.

Not, when it costs same as a bike
There are some countries in the world where things can be cost prohibitive or even totally unavailable.

Ahmet lives somewhere around Turkey and may well be in an area where mechanics/technicians truly cannot afford tools like torque wrenchs etc, while trying to feed their families...They make due with what they have got, or do without altogether.

And if you, (Chop-chop), are, like myself, here in the USA or other more affluent country...Count your blessings...I do so on a daily basis...DAMIEN

Ps...Ahmet comes from an area in the world where the abacas was invented as well as modern maths that also included, Zero, Which the rest of the world had no concept of...Mechanics and engineers have the mathematical knowledge to adjust and tighten things even without the fancy tools that we rely on here in the western world.

I have to admit I have a swivel socket and open combo 10 mm with a long, 8" distance between the two ends, wrench that I use a big 50 pound spring scale on to check torque. Since both my Honda C-102 and the 48 cc HT engines use 10 mm (6mm sized studs..) nuts on their heads, it's a good enough compromise to buying a 3/8ths torque wrench.

Hello boys I have a four stroke motorized bicycle 5G motorized bicycle mine has a ticking noise when I first started up it makes a loud ticking noise I do not know what to do how to make it stop it's driving me nuts what should I do how should I make the ticking noise stop on my four stroke motorized bicycle 5G motorized bicycle engine I don't know what to do what should I do My name is Aaron I live in Nampa Idaho I write it pretty much every day it's my permutation to get around town so please let me know what I should do thank you
This is a 2 stroke forum, you should start a new thread on the 4 stroke forum.

Moderators Note:
Thank-you Chainlube for this alert for post in wrong forum, I have moved it over to the 4 stroke forum and condensed these 4 posts in the opening post...A 2 stroke ticking sound may well not be the same thing as a 4 stroke ticking sound...lol.
