i was wondering if the motor needs an airfilter in the intake? the kit i bought didnt come with a filter and i dont want to break the engine somehow so im asking. i looked through a good number of the pages and couldnt find a similar question. thanks

forget the stock filter. buy a good one.
ingested dirt will wear the crap out of your bearings.

ok, so, out of maybe 5-10 videos about maintaining the filter and what not, i havent seen anyone remove a plastic retainer that keeps the filter in place. so it turns out there is a filter, its just kept in place by a plastic bit that i failed to notice before now. ill double or tripple check things before posting any more questions.

the tolerances are loose enough that a bit of grit in the engine isn't the end of the world

I see lotsa old school 2 strokers running with no air filter at all.
If you ride where there is no dirt and dust no problem, but in real life air and fuel filters are there for a reason.
Heck, they are cheap engines, if you only need it for a few months who cares though right?
