Seriously, tho... that design is the bee's knees. Only 4.4 pounds, easy mounting/removal, and the motor automatically disengages when you stop pedalling.

I have a regular push bike (no motor! :cry:) in my trunk for "last mile" rides, and it would be sweet to add something like that on any and every bike in existence. If this thing were half the price, I think it would bring about a whole new definition to "distruptive" technology. Total game changer. At it's current price, however... I will continue to drool.

I have seen some custom built equivalents, but that is the first light weight e-friction kit I've seen. I predict brisk sales for them.
 
Very inventive and pretty slick.

Just note that the mount is for 3-piece cranks, the same hanger system my mid mount shifting electrics use.
The bummer is you HAVE to pedal, it seems like that's how you control your speed as it has no throttle.

I like that water bottle battery a lot, slicker than the ones I typically use.
 
I have enough gear range with my 3x7 that I can peddle assist at 35 mph and get a good workout with a 35mph wind in my face on a calm wind day! I kinda like that aspect of that E system. In essence, it works very similar to my system in that it adds power through out the shift gear range and yet when you coast it has zero incipient drag. I'm wondering if you can fool it by slowly turning your pedals while in its highest power setting or shift into your climbing gears and be spinning your pedals fast but not really catching up to the speed of the bike and therefore having no actual pedal loading?

I'd like to add one to my bike and have a hybrid! Then add a USB port on that power pack and quit worrying about running your phone dead!

I'm sure there is a way to fool it, just route the pedal sensor wire to a twist or lever throttle, it is no doubt a standard 0-5V input which is just a variable resistor.

In fact it would be rather short sighted of them not to offer that as an option.
I'm sure it is because of the laws require pedaling, but there is a market for where you don't have to pedal.

Neat little system.
 
There's a slightly more affordable version out of the UK, I believe it is independent throttle also, called "Rubbee".
