quick question

Hi all, just a quick question :
Would a CDI cause a bike to be difficult to start and prevent it from idling? Ive had this problem a while and i have troubleshooted everything I can think of. Air leaks, damaged gaskets, carby jet, even set needle to leaner. Idler screw is in the correct setting. Followed advice given to me from here just yesterday. The only thing on the bike that isn't 100% is the CDI- where you attach it to the spark plug. There is a piece of wire sticking out the side of it. It's from the metal piece that goes on the top of the spark plug....

Replace the wire and cap, it screws out of the CDI box.
However the wires are glued into the CDI so you will have to dig it out with
an ice pick or similar. Be careful not to damage the sheet metal screw.

Strip the wire and secure to the plug tip with a nut as a temp fix.

Ive got an odd CDI. the box is housed in the magneto casing. The whole wiring of it looks different. If it had been a standard type, I have a brand new one of those.

and you didn't mention that......you had a Super Rat.

You can still cut the cap off and replace.

I will need to buy a new one, but can't seem to find this type anywhere

I prefer to switch to a snow blower [ waterproof ] plug cap, and use a spark plug with a top cap designed for a push on terminal [ think car, not motorcycle ]
Champion J8 works well on my Grubee. The cap included with kit is a cheap copy of the NGK cap . If you insist on stock look, buy a * real * NGK cap

Motorcycle use both types of caps. How did you check for air leaks? The idles screw needs to be set where it idles well and there is not any particular setting as they will very.
