Chain keeps falling off of sprocket, tensioner keeps falling and hitting spokes

Just as the title says. Chain jumps some of the spokes on the rear sprocket and falls off eventually. The tensioner also keeps falling inward towards the wheel and jams the spokes, locking up the rear wheel.

Is my tensioner in the right place? I'm not really sure what else to try...

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

omit the tensioner and shorten the chain. make sure your sprocket is just about perfectly centered, eyeballing it won't do. more than 20 thou of runoff can be a disaster

Butre has a good idea and it does work.IF you want to keep the tensioner try this, chains way too loose you want at the maximum 1/2 inch of slack in the chain. i like about 1/4 inch of play in my chain. If the bracket is slipping on the frame leave the tensioner wheel at the bottom: cut an old tire to fit the tensioners mount, cutting off all tread (leaving the rubber flat). Place the piece of tire between the frame and the mount bracket tighten the top bracket bolt all the way the the bottom one so you can still adjust it when you have it where you want it the proceed to tighten down the bottom bolt the rest of the way. The rubber of the tire will make for a none slip grip between the frame and bracket.

Thanks guys; solved it by shortening the chain and trying it without the tensioner. It was still giving me a lot of play so I put the tensioner back on. Master link broke, though, and I'll have to get that replaced before I can start this thing up for the first time.

Bail, you dont have to have a master link i dont use one, you can just take off a half link and have a stronger chain. I think master links are not good because they break or come apart too often for my liking.

if it's sloppy without the tensioner then buy a half link

Thank you all for the help! I replaced the master link on my chain and removed another link. The tensioner keeps the chain within a quarter-inch of play now and works beautifully.
