Just had my bike stolen last night. I can only blame myself for leaving it on the front porch. Sucks, really sucks. I've put so much time and energy into that bike. Make sure to bring your bikes in or locked up!

Sucks m8. Hopefully, you start another one. I am at like a bike security level 1 but will get the security level 5 u bolt. Though around my area, no one even lock their doors...

Yeah....it stinks............but people do steal bikes.

I recommend a good U-lock plus a steel cable attached to some solid object. Either a pole sunk in concrete or something so heavy that it won't be easy to walk away.

Even that won't stop a dedicated thief, of course. But making it harder is the real name of the game. Without making security so difficult for yourself that it's not worth it.

Or at least make it so it won't start to aid their get-a-away and frustrate them when they ever try to start it.

It's pretty easy really, just epoxy a little a little box to the top of the CDI with a keylock switch that shorts the input like your kill button does.

The best part is even if they break the cover off and it leaves some CDI wires, which it usually won't, their first thought is to short the two wires that go to to the switch to make it go.
Hehehe, when the switch is 'ON' it shorts out the system and keeps the engine from starting.

Consider that just another way to make the low life scum sucking thieves lives a little more unpleasant ;-}

Well, tbh, while KC's idea might frustrate them, it doesn't deter or significantly reduce the chance of your bike being stolen. If a thief wants to steal your bike and your bike does not have significant safeguards, it is going to be stolen. Once the thief pops your lock, your bike is good as gone - a little box with a key ain't gonna stop that. I watched a popular biking channel on YouTube and they recommend the following:

- park it in a visible space
- park it against a bike rack or sturdy pole
- use a high quality U-bolt
- wrap the front and back wheel with heavy bike wire into the U-bolt
- wrap the seat too if you think they are gonna steal that...

The real question is with all the motors and tools on our bikes. Where the hell do you have room to store a 10lb uBolt with a 5lb bike security wire without making the bike look like some post apocalyptic monster...

Here's the deal, most if not all bike thiefs want to 1) pedal away, 2) push away, 3) motor away, they rarely ever have a pickup or the like waiting and ready, cause let's face it, it's the desperation easy grab a convience store robber with no thoughts previous, he saw it, he wanted it, it was easy, so why not.
If you live in an "area" I first suggest considering, is the cost of living there worth the money you make when everything such as worry/turmoil about theft on a daily basis is constantly there?If so, then quick releases (granted this part is where CG frame builds DO NOT shine) are better than expensive heavy locks cables, most stores will let you keep your wheels/saddle behind a counter, even taking off just the front wheel will stop 98% of thiefs, they will not carry it away.Remove both wheels at night, and they will think someone already hit it and it won't worth the sack of whatever they need at the moment.

You also don't want to get into some big security production every...single.......night. It gets tiresome.

So you gotta find the right balance. I do use a Kryptonite U-lock. Are there better locks? Could be. But this is good enough. Plus I attach that lock to a cable which is attached to posts in the ground.

Serious thieves could still get the bike, of course. Those who are really good at it will probably get it pretty quickly, too. But it will stop those guys who just grab a chance on the spur of the moment.

And if they get my bike, then I'll just build another one. And if they get my bike more than once, then that might make some adjustments to just how much trouble I want to go through for security's sake.

But I do still like the idea of sabotaging the bike in order that the darned thief is disappointed in his score. Serves him right.

Hey guys I have a $7,500 custom motorised bicycle which in turn has 2 Master locks 1 is through the back wheel and framework & the other is through the front wheel & framework plus I also brought a motion activated alarm with lock nuts on to the frame it is about the size of a packet of Winfield smoke's and it cost me $4.93 of ebay including postage from China it has three different settings on it plus unlimited number of combinations and runs of a 9 volt battery which you can only access it when it is of the bike, so Even if they get past the locks Chance's are they won't want 129 db alarm going of why they ride away highly recommended to get one. Type in bicycle alarm on eBay and you will see countless options for bicycle alarms. There is also bike Sheppard which is world wide bicycle rego at bike Sheppard which is Free. Plus data dot. Neato!Great advise, please post pics of the lock set-up's so we can get a better idea, it sounds neat.
