We've all been there tinkering and fixing our bikes where it be the silent enemy the air leak, minor adjustments or a full out engine rebuild we all ask this question, is there a better way?

I've been reading DragonFly75's site again and have decided to try some mods sometime soon but what to chose? I personally want more low end torque, less vibration and higher top speed.

I have found using Full Synthetic oil helps boost power overall and sanding the head for higher compression helps as well, using RTV on the head gasket helps stop heat leaks better than anything else I've tried, this used to be a big problem for me starting out years ago.

I've read making an extension to the intake via a tube and copper shim but I want to know if any of you have tried this and what mods you have used and stand by.

Hope to hear from you all soon, happy motoring!

best cheap mods:
1. sanding the head down
2. making sure the head/cylinder junction is well sealed
3. extending the intake
4. drilling balance holes in the crank wheels
5. making the woodruff key offset for 5 degrees timing retard
6. putting a better air filter on
7. drilling out the muffler to breath better
8. widening ports and increasing the intake port duration to 120 degrees
9. putting JBWeld at the front of the transfers to direct the flow more rearward into the cylinder
10. using an iridium spark plug

more power (if you can get it) means quicker motor failure - I don't do it

actually most of these mods just increase the efficiency and lengthen the life of the engine, not shorten it.
Sanding the head down does increase stress on the bearings but that is alleviated by retarding the ignition (step 5). Best to use a pressure gauge to make sure you don't go over 120psi.
Vibration is the biggest enemy of this engine and so doing step 4 makes it less self destructive.
Drilling out the muffler relieves back pressure which lets the engine run cooler although with more power since power isn't wasted fighting that pressure.

technically no, because you still ride the same number of miles each week, going slow or fast.
