Hey all! I'm new to the forums and the custom bike world alike so please excuse my lack of knowledge. I am also aware that bicycles are two wheelers and I am asking about a three wheeled cycle. Hope that is okay.

As a summer project, I would like to build a motorized Schwinn Meridian Tricycle using a Predator 212 engine. I have looked all over the internet and I cannot find any tutorials on how to build a motorized tricycle using a Predator 212. I was wondering if you guys answer the following:

1) Have you ever built a motorized tricycle? If so, how did it work out?

2) Is the 212 too powerful of an engine to put on the tricycle? I plan to load up the tricycle with myself and maybe 20-30 extra pounds (Total 150-160 lbs) whenever I ride in it and I do have some pretty steep hills to conquer. I just do not want to replace the tires too often or overload the tricycle with power.

3) What is the diameter of the rear wheel axle?

4) Do I have all the right parts? Anything I should take away or add?

Predator 212 Engine: $122.85

60T Drive Wheel Sprocket 420P: $19.95 (For the sprocket, I'm not sure if I need a sprocket hub or not.)

Centrifugal Clutch, 10T, 1041- 3/4" Bore with Chain 1041: $29.95

Thank you so much for reading this. Any advice you have on motorized tricycles are appreciated. Thank you for your time and advice.

You'll need an adapter for the clutch, the engine shaft is 5/8th inch, meanwhile your clutch is 3/4in, they make keyed shaft adapters and sell on eBay, I was personally looking at one so I could use a manual clutch on a predator engine, the clutch was 3/4 as well.

Thank you so much! I actually found a kit online at gasbike.net that had a full package that was actually cheaper than all the individual parts added up after shipping and tax. Thank you for your help though!

You would do far better buying all that separate and not use gasbike. Many members have taken the gamble and got incorrect, missing or damaged parts. Trying to get their customer service to even answer the phone can be an issue. I've heard that they listened to one person's problem, laughed and hung up. Then again, some people got everything they ordered and have had no issues. Its a gamble, one that I myself would rather not take.

Wow... This makes me nervous.

Gan, take a look at this video. The guy started with the gasbike kit and then had to get another mount and throttle connection. Even with the kit, this build does not have a lot of documentation so that being said by buying individually you can get better parts.

Thank you for this video. Due to all the mixed reviews I am getting, I have just requested a cancellation for the order. Hope they allow for a refund because it is still processing. Fingers crossed.
