Is there longer caliper brakes that will fit this iv got a couple sets laying around from mtbs but there to short the break pads end up at the tire and not the rim

Chrome rims will always have virtually no friction with the rim brake pads when it is wet/dewy.
They squeal like a mf even when dry.
Rim brakes will cause the chrome to flake eventually.
Softer brake pads will help with the stopping, not with the squealing.
Tangential cuts to the pad surface may help with the moisture to some extent (don't expect miracles though).
Long reach caliper brakes have the lowest leverage, relying on the lever at the bars instead for their leverage. This causes cable stretch, a spongey vague feeling that gives you much less control/modulation than the other/better rim brake types.
Old/cheap/kids' crappy suspension forks often have an arch brace which can be unbolted from the fork and has the V brake lugs attached. This could possibly be attached to the chainstays of the bike and used to mount a v brake. Check dumpsters.

Thank you for the info on brakes it's exactly what I need to know ..I'm always looking by trash cans and dumpsters for parts

You may need to get fancy with the wheels and get some drum brakes or disc brake conversion. I'm in the process of adding disc brake front to my chopper and I have yet to find a solution for the back. I may end up going with caliper on the back and I'll have my coaster brake as well.
I just ordered the parts for the disc brakes and it's a new venture for me as well.
I totally forgot about the dumpster diving though, what great advice

I too would like to convert from coaster to disc brakes. Can you provide any input on the brakes you went with?

I'm in the middle of converting my huffy cranbrook to freewheel with a rim brake in the back and a disc in the front. When its finished the only parts left that are huffy will be the frame and chainguard. Starting to think I should have started on a more expensive bike...next build...next build...

I just bought a kit on ebay that comes with 2 complete sets, one for front and one for rear. I'm not linking them because I haven't even started trying to mount it yet, they were just a 160mm rotor and caliper set, pretty common on Ebay. I won't be using the back one but I saw someone post on how they added a disc to the front of those micargi 60 something spoke wheels which is what I have. Basically they drilled and tapped directly to the hub and just used spacers or washers to get the disc spacing correct. It looked pretty simple but definitely a "measure thrice drill once" type of job. I will share once I do it but my chopper has become a long term project because of me wanting to do a "kick ass" job on it. I've worked on my daily driver much more and have built a few other quickies just to get rid of motors that were just OK, as of right now I haven't found any that run better than the Skyhawk right out of the box. I have not tried Dax Or Bekits. For me the Flying Horse was the worst of all but not sure if I might of got a lemon because I've heard of several people using them. My Flying Horse was sooo off balance I thought it was going to shake my bike to bits.

Yeah I'm hold right now with the brakes I do have the bracket I found on the front forks of a girls bike just gotta find someone to clean the old weld off and weld to rear of mine .. Thinking about ordering the front disk brake kit it comes with a spacer so I don't have to mess with that to much
