Is this real?

So far I hit 41 mph.
Yea, yea I know, no front brake. Bad idea. But that being said motor is stock 66cc grubee 2 stroke with 36 tooth sprocketol on the rear. About 35mph is what it cruises at. With stock 44 tooth it went 31mph top speed.

This is not what riding motorized bikes is all about. It is dangerous, it is illegal, and it gives responsible riders a bad name. I hope that guy gets caught and gets about $1000 worth of fines. That would be getting off easy. Motorized bicycles in my state refers to "motor assisted bicycles" They are supposed to be ridden like regular bicycles, and at the same speeds (and I don't mean Lance Armstrong speeds. He couldn't even do it without drugs) They are NOT motorcycles. If you want a motorcycle, then get one, and a license, registration, insurance, and a plate to go with it.

Yes, but now we have motorcycles, and they come with all kinds of requirements. Motorized bicycles were intended for simple, cheap, low speed transportation. If you turn them into motorcycles, which we already have, then they are going to have all the same requirements, so if you want the performance of a motorcycle, then just get a motorcycle.

And where is the fun in that? I have a license and I ve ridden different motorcycles (mostly 1000cc) over some years but I still started building these motored bikes and my goal is to go fast. The fun is in getting as much out of this piece of crap engine as possible. A 2stroke chinese engine on a bicycle is quite pointless means of transportation anyway. Stinks smokes vibrates and falls apart. Just get a proper scooter or something. I this Chinese bicycle stuff as a fun project and learning platform but for everyday use there are a lot better options that are probably even cheaper to operate in the long run.

We are only talking about 40mph guys, a good bike has no problem with that, a motorcycle can go 100mph faster than that.
Just take the good ideas on a real motorcycle and employ them on the bike.

Good tires, brakes, and gears go a long way towards making a bike more like a motorcycle.
This is the new base I start with for my custom 2-stroke shifting builds.

Front and rear 3" wide Kenda Flame tire and disc brake wheels.
Triple tree front fork.
Skyhawk GT2 gas tank frame with disc brake mount.

66cc stock Skyhawk except the spark plug, I always change that ;-}
Sick Bike Parts shift kit.
7-speed Shimano derailleur.

It jumps off the line and will get you to 40mph in a few seconds, but then it can also bring you to a dead stop in ~15'.
Just useful personal transportation to get around in a timely and safe manner with no government.

I just have to shake my head at the suggestion of just buying a motorcycle and getting the legal requirements if you want to go over pedal speeds.
The whole point is to faster than you can pedal and many simply can't legally drive anything else!

My point is, safe fast bikes are not the death traps some portray, and you can build a safe bike yourself for under a Grand.
Sure there will alwasy be U-tube idiots, but you don't have to build that way.

It's not how safe they are, it's how legal they are, AND how the public and cops see them and their riders. Even being a motorized bike rider myself, if I were a cop, and saw a motorized bike riding IN A TRAFFIC LANE and keeping up with traffic, I would not only stop him, but I would give him a ticket for everything I could possibly think of. I would try to get video of it first, as evidence of how fast he was going.

Motorized bicycles are just that. motorized BICYCLES. They are not motorcycles, they are not mopeds, they are not scooters, all of which require everything a motorcycle does in AZ. Motorcycle license, insurance, registration, and plate. In AZ, those are VERY cheap. I have three motorcycles and 2 scooters. All are ridden, and all are completely legal. Bicycles (and putting a motor on one does not change anything, they are still bicycles) are not allowed to ride out in the middle of a traffic lane. the must be ridden to the far right, bike lane or not. The whole point of riding a motorized bicycle in town is that they are allowed to use the bike lanes and ride to the far right.

Mopeds and scooters (mopeds have a top legal speed of 30 mph, and a 50cc scooter tops out at about 35-37 mph, but takes forever to get there) cannot be ridden in bike lanes or to the far right, yet they are way to slow to ride out in traffic. As you know, traffic on 45 mph roads around here goes 50-55 mph. So mopeds and 50cc scooters are completely worthless in town. But they are a blast outside the city limits. I used to ride 30 mph mopeds and 37 mph scooters all over southern AZ, including from Chandler to Tucson (the back way, through Florence) on the shoulder. It's legal outside the city limits under AZ's slow moving vehicle law. Bicycles don't need anything, motorized vehicles (like farm and construction equipment) require a flashing amber light. I simply connected my turn signals together to make 4 way flashers.

The speed limit for motorized bicycles in AZ is 20 mph, and in many cases even that is too fast. Now if somebody wanted to go 30 mph out of town, on the open road, that wouldn't bother me so much. Visually, from a car going 70 mph, you can't tell the difference.

Since you are in the motorized bicycle business around here, you certainly know the laws. Hopefully you also know how non motorized bicycle riders (except teenagers) dislike them. The cops hate them (they also hate crotch rocket type motorcycles, their riders are about as reckless and irresponsible as motorized bike riders) pedal bike riders hate them (I remember how I felt when I was a pedal bike rider, and heard one of those gopeds coming up behind me with an expansion chamber exhaust) drivers hate them because of their irresponsible and reckless behavior. Yes it is hard to defend car drivers because their use of cell phones while driving cause more traffic accidents than any other single thing. I recently got back from WA, OR, CA, and NV, they all have laws against cell phone use, and signs up everywhere.

But, the fact that others are doing something wrong, unsafe and illegal does not excuse motorized bicycle riders from doing the same. There is a huge lobbying effort in the AZ State Legislature attempting to get rid of motorized bicycles. And every time a MB rider gets stopped by a cop, has an accident, or gets reported (probably by a driver using a cell phone illegally) it just gives them more ammunition to use against us (people like me, who ride responsibly and legally)

If you truly need to use a motorized bicycle for transportation, then you have no need for illegal racing engines and go fast parts. Stay legal. If it's a hobby, you still have no need to see how reckless you can be and how fast you can go. If you do, then you've got the wrong hobby. Unless there happens to be a track nearby that has motorized bicycle racing. The streets are not a race track. And just because a motorcycle can go over a 100 mph (some can approach 200 mph) doesn't mean doing that on the street is legal either.

Good post Junkyard Dog.
Keep legal, keep stealthy, keep under the radar to keep our sport in existence.
Tell your buddy with the loud exhaust he is damaging our image.
Tell your buddy who speeds down residential streets at full speed to back off or we will all be voted off the island.
Pedal, even if you don't have to, so people and cops don't ask questions about your "motor assisted bike".

It is a wonderful sport, do your best to keep it alive.
Don't be THAT guy. You know, the loud speeding idiot who ruins it for the rest of us.

In a school zone is the only time 20mph is too fast.

That is completely false.
The only MB lobby effort at all is my 6 year campain to relax MB laws to allow 66cc engines and 35mph top speed.

And cops hate us?
I've never seen it in any way shape or form.
Heck I've been on 35-40 mph road riding the right @30mph and a cop car pulled alongside me.
I looked over, smiled and nodded, and both cops in the car smiled and nodded back and passed on by.

ALL the cops care about is if you are you riding safe and not a danger to yourself or others, not the size of your engine or speed limit.

You have a drivers license, not everyone does including me, heck that's how I got into MB's.

If you want to putt along at cross walk speeds suite yourself.
Use the farm machinery rule if you want to.
But a bicycle has every right to the road as a car.
Sure it's best to ride on the right to let faster traffic around, I find it much safer to just ride with traffic.

And what do you do when you have to make a left at a light?
Walk the bike across in the cross walk?
I get in the left turn lane like a car and it is completely legal and far less time consuming and safer.

You can putt alone at 20mph or less all you want, but please don't hate on those of us that actually need to get around in a timely manner.
