First off, sorry for posting in the general section. It wouldn't let me posted under carbs. Anyway, I have a standard 66-80cc motor on my bike. I was on a ride when all of a sudden the clutch just quit engaging. I replaced the bar and bearing ball. But I honestly don't know what the hell I'm doing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
 
first, open the clutch cover and see if outer plate is tight on the pads - if it is, then you have probably lost a woodruff key somewhere on one of the shafts
 
Id check the pads. I need to possibly upgrade my clutch pads as kick starting finds the clutch slipping. Cant tighten it up anymore but mine still runs.

Did some digging and found out for performance applications these stock clutches are not too good. especially if you slip the clutch a bit to avoid pedaling.

are you sure they are slipping, I had a shorn key that felt so much like a clutch slip I overlooked it and replaced the pads as I couldn't adjust it any further.

Another issue might be oily or greasy pads, I like to pin it up against a wall and really burn the pads in by purposely slipping the clutch with some nice throttle. I mention the key thing since it felt like slip only while trying to start it, once going the warped slots and key locked up well enough that it wasn't felt while driving the bike forward, that specifically was my small bevel gear, and it was hard to notice because a jackshaft pedal starts the engine, so I couldn't just roll the bike and see the gear move freely of the bolt holding it down. Rolling backwards would turn the motor but since the key locked up in that direction with respect to the driving direction of the motor I just wouldn't see the slip. Kind of acted like a freewheel sorta.

Other issue is your clutch vableccould be too tight and you just can't get full engagement.
 
well for me I can pedal start doesn't seem to slip its only when kick starting and its not always sometimes it slips sometimes it doesn't. Never did it before but it just all of a sudden started doing it for mine. Aside from that I don't know I would have to take it all apart and check it out I don't think its a woodrift key though. It to me feels like the clutch is slipping like the pads are worn or they are contaminated.

As far as adjustment goes I can adjust more its just I already adjusted the clutch like 4 times in 2 tanks to get a good bite.
 
How far does the plate move out when you pull on the clutch with the flower nut loosened a bit? Almost reminds of a bucking bar or the cam on the clutch arm shaft that actuates the bar and bearing when it gets worn down, basically you can't put the spring under full tension when you adjust the plate, so it never grips as hard as it could.

Just pull the cover on the drive gear maybe see if a lack of grease killed it prematurely.
 
if it is single speed bike, there will often be a bit of slippage when kick starting - pulling clutch lever and letting it snap back sometimes helps - also, since grab of clutch depends on distance lever moves between locked and released, I sometimes file down the frame that the lever sits in to let lever move out farther when released

Hmm, don't think I've ever thought about that clever trick before, good idea I really hate some of those short pull levers.
