Hi my name is Billy Cooper I am a proud owner of a high performance motorized bicycle I'm looking for a group of proud Riders and owners that would be willing to go with me to demand to speak to the Texas governor as taxpayers so we can get the law changed on motorized bikes the laws are ridiculous and makes no sense the laws say we cannot ride them unless they are registered and insured but yet DMV refuses to register them and insurance companies refuse to insure them if this sounds like something you would be interested in helping with please contact me at BillyRC30 at gmail.com with subject let's change the law

over a very long life, I've seen folks try to change a law many times - never saw them rejoice over the result

Making a lot of noise about an issue, but not actually thinking through what may be the response to that issue is what brought about Washington's across the board ban of motorized bicycles, back in 2010.

So do we cheer on a nation wide law that restricts or even forbids bicycle powered by engines? Youtube videos of idiots recording their tricked out 45 mph plus bike blasting through their neighborhoods while running stop signs and generally maintaining a 15+ mph speed over the 25 mph limit is going to be the first thing presented to the people making this law.

Be careful what you wish for.

Years ago I spent quite a bit of time being active working on veterans legislation in Texas. Things like getting the Purple Heart license plates, disabled veterans property tax legislation and others. First going to the governor is not the method, you have to deal with the legislature representatives, they write the bills. You start with contacting yours, and you have to build a base of like minded people that will be contacting their representatives. It is a long tough row to hoe, and there is no light at the end of the tunnel until it is signed by the governor.

You have to know how the bill needs to be written with lots of details, and you have to convince them that it is necessary. Plan on spending many hours on the phone, in the local offices of your senator and house representative. But before you get started, you have to have your own organization of people that are willing and able to spend the hours to do this. I am not talking about a few dozen, I am talking about a few 100 that are willing to spend their money and time to try to get this legislation passed. The members of your group need to be spread across the state, so that it shows you have statewide support.

The odds of it happening will slim, you may spend a year or 2 getting any support, then another year or 2 getting a bill introduced to just see it die in committee. I've been there, done that, seen that and I am too damn old to try it again.

was that when they wrote those things about black folks being only 3/5 of a real person and women couldn't own property or vote?

Hey, laws were changed & there was rejoicing. I don’t think it’s possible to design an ideal state.

I can only offer you my best philosophy~

as I recall, Plato determined that the benevolent dictatorship was the ideal state

Read it again. That book is going to stand in the great library for a very long freakin’ time

I have an on-line petition to relax the AZ bike law here http://kcsbikes.com/AZRS28-2516.htm

I found this statue for motorized bicycles...
...
28-705. Special speed limitation; motor driven cycles

A person shall not operate a motor driven cycle at any time provided in section 28-922 at a speed of more than thirty-five miles per hour unless the motor driven cycle is equipped with a head lamp or head lamps that are adequate to reveal a person or vehicle at a distance of three hundred feet ahead.
....
Now that is what we can all use here.
Print out the above and carry it with you, and put a nice CREE light on your bike!
I want to be seen and run the light in strobe for daytime riding.
The strobe makes a huge difference, I have seen cars slam on their brake before turning in front of me.
