Wrong welder plugin?

LOL. same problem, i have found an old miller t-bolt off cg for $80. I cant plug it in, wants 240v, 50a. I was thinking about hacking different circuits and got 240v with a volt meter on hot to hot, but decided not to b/c i got yelled at.

Not to be mean frankenstien but you are incorrect when you said you need 4, 120v outlets on different circuits. You CANNOT combine amperage, only voltage, so you would get 480v, 15 amps not 230v, 30 amps.

Yo, i would try the HF 90a stick welder. They take less juice. You might not be able to do thick rods like 1/2" 7018 and thick plate, but it should work.

I should have mentioned you also can't just hack some extention cords together and hook it up to get 30 amps, you'll have a 240 circuit and 4 breakers that will trip as soon as you exceed 15 amps.

The circuitry to properly do this on 4 breakers is beyond the scope of most people, and definitely anyone who has to ask if they can make it work is well below qualified to even start doing something like this.

It would be better to find 2 outlets with separate breakers and drop a 30 in each slot as long as the wiring is rated for it. Otherwise just open the breaker panel and add 2 30 amp breakers or even better a standard f***ing range breaker and some appropriate line, you can find the 3 and 4 prong outlets at home depot. Buy some rubber gloves too if you're an especially dumb cut of meat.

Whoa, you are scaring me. There is no way you are going to get 480v off of a residential electrical panel.
Listen to Frankenstein's advice about adding a range breaker and plug. Better yet, have a professional do it.
Good thing you got yelled at. I could smell smoking flesh a-coming.

As for the Harbor Freight 90a 90a stick welder, don't waste your time or money. 110v MIG with Fluxcore is a much better option, especially for smaller stuff. The welds look terrible with splatter, but are strong enough if well done. Buy a tank of shield gas and go solid-core wire if you want pretty looking welds. For heavier stuff an old 220v stick welder (and wiring an outlet for it) is the best game in town. I have an old (1950s) Forney that I absolutely love.

OOPPS FRANKENSTEIN!!!!!!! I made an error. I forgot that resedential panels only have 2 different phases. So you could not get 480v off a resedential panel, MY BAD. If there was 4 phases, you could. But somehow with 3 phases and a neutral, you can get all sorts of werid stuff like 277 and 480 in y and triangle configs.

LOL smoking flesh. A neat trick is if you are doing pixie stuff, have one hand in your back pocket. This way, you never accidently complete a circuit and the current just goes through your feet to the earth instead of across your hands and through your heart.

I just turn off the power because I'm not an idiot.
