Wide front motor mount

Hey everyone, this is my first post. I have been into building motorized bikes for about 10 years off & on. I usually use Briggs motors. I did build one bike for a friend with one of the Chinese kits. Now I'm building one for myself and noticed some motors have a narrow front motor mount stud spacing & some motors have a wide (2'') front motor mount stud spacing . My question is does anyone sell just the motor alone with the wide spacing between the studs? Yes I know they make adapters for the narrower spaced motors to fit on larger front down tubes. Thanks & keep the shiny side up.

I've been through a few HT engines and I have only seen one size stud separation (1 5/8" off the top of my head).

I just got a new engine and was surprised to see 8mm studs front and back, something that has to be a big improvement. On the motor I used before, I drilled out the two front mounting holes to accept 5/16" grade 8 bolts.

I prefer making my own motor mounts, using muffler brackets (3/8" u-bolts) to wrap the down tube. Cut a rectangle out of 1/4" mild steel as a transition plate and drill holes where necessary for proper engine placement. You can really lock the engine down this way and save yourself multiple headaches.

8mm? You sure? That's twice the 4mm you always see... Certain it isn't 6mm or something?

I am absolutely positive. The other motors I've had used the standard 6mm studs (using nuts that fit 10mm wrenches). Exhaust studs are still the standard 6mm but front and back mounting studs are definitely 8mm with 14mm heads. I had to remove my motor mounts and redrill for the larger studs. I love it!

In a thread long ago, I asked why 6mm stud bolts, since they are obviously prone to breakage. I remember that my suggestion to jump to 8mm was poo- pooed, one posted that (6mm width offers necessary flexibility or something similar.) Once I drilled out to 5/16", I had no problems with stud breakage.

I bought a Dax kit and it was lovely; very pleased with it. I am hoping that 8mm becomes a kind of new standard. It only makes sense.

Where the f*** is my brain today, 4mm mounting studs am I nuts?

Probably since I made an 8 egg recipe with 14 eggs when I meant to use only 12...then expected it cook in the same time 8 eggs cooks in.

I also got lost on the way to church since I apparently can't drive down a straight road without accidentally turning off...

I put the milk away in the pantry...

I don't think I had enough sleep I'm just loosing it... Maybe log out until we're done moving and a good hard nap...
