How would you motorized this 26inch fat tire folding bike (gas or electric)? Pretty cool and practical bike

Guys, I stumbled upon this bike while I was looking for just a regular 26" folding bike. I like the big fat tires I think they make the build looks so cool; yes they have rolling resistances but its only 2-3 mph and I think the fat tire look is so good it is worth it. Also, the folding aspect I think it can fit in a trunk, frunk, or back of SUV, in truck easily. One of the things about ebike and gas commuting as you may know is that if the weather is inclement it would be great to be dropped off by car/truck at wherever and then you motor back later when you are done and the weather is better. Or, if you want to do some biking in the deep forest or mountains, the folding aspect makes it so easy to just load the bike and go.

So, how would you motorized this bike? This thing is $550-650 and not even available from USA sellers so it has to come from China or Russia. Wheels are expensive as hell so you don't want to fook up that rear wheel and be doubly sure your drive system is 100%. I think electric is pretty straight forward with a 1000-2000W hub motor and detachable battery across the top tube (accounting for that hump at pivot point).

This would be my ideal bike for reasons above. Mostly I like the look of this. Seems like a real motorbike.

well, if you have the $$ go electric. its going to be way easier to do, as you want to keep the folding aspect i would get a mid drive. but if your looking for cheaper option theres hub drive as well. (front or rear, i would go rear personally) also 550 is way too much for what your getting. but heres the parts list for the mid drive:

Yeah, I think I am good on the electric conversion part. Though for a mid drive I would buy SBP 3kW Cyclone and for a hub kit I would buy from Leaf Bike. Yes, $550 is stiff price. But, a fat tire bike with disc brakes is $300 on eBay so you are paying a $250 premium to get a smaller form factor and the folding aspect... I dunno this look is too good. Is it possible to gas motorized?

i would say go for a rack mount for gas. i would not advice going frame mounted (just plain too difficult on that style of frame)
if you can get someone to fabricate a rear rack and get a predator 89cc or 212 (i would get a 212, just because there the same price)
and a clutch with a #41 sprocket. then put it together and your on your way!

My thought would be a motor hanging from the seat post, moped style, but a shock is in the way. Unless you can figure out a way to put plates around the shock, and up to the top tube before the hinge. Just a thought................Curt

It's a folding bike, and a big one at 26 wheel size, which are much weaker than a diamond frame bike. That single tube for the spine is cut in half, and rejoined by a hinge and quick release. Makes me shudder thinking about someone vigorously off-roading it under leg power only, let alone motorized.

My concerns would be can the frame's folding joint handle the additional stress of adding more weight and power at the rear wheel?

Probably best as a 350 to 500 watt E bike, or a very small rack mount friction drive like a Stanton with the 25 or 35 cc Honda.

Yeah, I've seen those. Its $259 with ship on eBay, which is where I prefer to buy due to buyers protection, filter for USA sellers (amazon dont have this), slightly cheaper prices, and imo more consistent shipping. BUT, those fat tires man... Everyone would want to talk to you about the bike and engine. It just be so damn cool looking. And, I am looking at this now even though I am still working on the other build because my bike that the other build on has a few problems: 1) its a walmart bike, 2) the rear brake like does NOT work. I am so done with caliper brakes I want disc on the rear, 3) I bike everywhere (school, work, etc) and sometimes if I can just fold it up and get dropped off in inclement weather that be soooo good. with a regular mountain bike wheel, i think the largest you can fit on there is a 2.6" wide tire? I still think I want atleast 3" for a fat tire look but I dunno make 2.5-2.6" has enough of the look.

I read a similar build almost to a T of what you described, with the mongoose, in the read the dude actually how to drill the rear sprocket wider for it to fit the bike. I dont want to have to do that with mine, so could you suggest any way around ? the kit isnt built for a fat tire bike, but really none of them are
