by CeramicSpeed, not new but strange way to do the pedal drive gearing. I was thinking if that drive shaft just had a gear on it, a rack mounted engine could could have a cool shift kit

there are a few problems with them,
there going to be really expsensive. (like 3.5K or something crazy, like when sram realised the eagel drivetrain, it was a grand and a half!)
it would be cool, but a motorcylce would be more cost effective lol.
also, im sure theres going to be problems with them (like how it will hold up to power shifts, how much power in general)

yeah, I guess it's not for the common person.
just give it a few years,
all bike componets go from expensive to cheap.
like right now you can get a entire 12sp groupset for 275$ (also from sram, tempted to get one, but ill stick with my 11spd for now)
i can garentee in a year or 2 it will drop down to 200, becuase by then its considered "outdated"

It is made for that frame only, you can't move it between your various bikes. You can't just put a different front sprocket or cassette on and change the ratios. It's all fixed.
I think it would totally suck, for anyone who loves tinkering with their bikes.
It looks like it'll be slower to get the wheel in and out of the frame too, compared with derailleur gears.

That's pretty neat, but I can't see that holding up to some serious high-load chevrolegging. At least with a chain and sprocket, the chain uses a little over 50% of the sprocket to transfer power. That "CeramicSpeed" uses 2 little bearings to transfer power. They stated their goal was to reduce friction, they obviously accomplished that, but at what cost to long-term durability?

Color me skeptical. I bet the lycra crowd is drooling tho!
