can you get through it with a phillips screw driver, small one of course.
then just pry that insert out, right?

That black plastic square cap is hiding it. Never seen one like that before.

i got one just like this for my first 4-stoke, if everything else is the same then i know exactly what he is dealing with, in the end i just bought another 4-stroke,

1. I had to Grease the clutch,Clutch bell inerds
2. i had to grease the back belt sprocket inerds
3. i had to loctite the bolt holding the back belt sprocket because it kept coming off
4. i had to put chain on before the belt but keep it 1-2 links loose then add belt and slowly tighten
5. I had to remove the Chain idler to make it work because the idler cause problems with letting it sit there without making chain to tight
7. even with all the adjustments when driving it Vibrated like a son of a bish
8. i had to toss it across the yard and get a new one From Wal-mart because i got frustrated

Distant some times you just need a new carb. Did you have one w/the air mixture screw covered by that black square plastic?. If you need a new 142f BGF on ebay is selling them for $108 plus ship...……...any time a 142/4f runs crappy 1st thing to do is to clean that idle jet out located below the idle screw adjuster. Most times that fixes it.
