I have a hyper bicycles beach cruiser with a 2 stroke 66 cc engine. I'm using the hub mounted cnc style 40 tooth sprocket.

Recently the bike petals began to turn while walking. The petals also try to turn while coasting though you can stop them you can feel them working against your feet while the engine is engaged. The bike also doesn't roll backwards without coming to a stiff point and stopping before a ping. The chains and sprockets seem fine and aren't skipping.
The bike seems to roll forward OK but when rolling forward using the engine the bike makes a few popping noises as the petals rock back and forth controlably. speed doesn't change it?

The brakes seem to work fine.
Not sure what else to look into?
Anyone have any experience with this?

Think your hub is on it's way out. It may lock up or you may lose the brakes.
It locked at the bait shop today whIle trying cranking. a little moving the wheel unlocked it and I made it back. I've never had a chain lock or chain problems so I'm sure that wasnt it. It does seem to be a 100$ bike though I bought it off ebay in a combo. It was called the midnight rider but was just a common cheap bike I found to be in Stock at Walmart lol.. do you have a rim you've replaced? do they make a heavy duty replacement with brake arm and petal sprocket I could just put my adapter on?

it would almost be wise to get a new bike if I didn't have this thing the way I want it as far as the engine and other parts kit parts.

Please do not ride that bike until you replace the rear hub or convert it to freewheel at minimum.

I had a coaster lock, jump the chain, and almost send me into traffic at ~45mph. Luckily I had a front caliper brake as backup.

is there ever a point you get a motored bike out of the deal..?.. my bike has a Amazon Prime account.. lol
I also ordered a carb just in case it gets stripped.
