I am having hard time with chain sprocket alignment can't afford adapter I read on here a guy said use one rubber not two would that work?

What Seems to be issue.. if i may ask,

the rubber(tire) spacers should compress as you tighten the nuts on the bolt
you an try adding metal washers or removing them for more squeeze Or you could remove back or front rubber spacer but i would replace it with rubber style washers this way you have some kind of protection on ya spokes

Be ready too replace spokes had 6 bikes so far and all of them had sprocket adapters and everyone of them worked great rag joints eat spokes a lot sooner. Cdhpower has a lot of them too select from. Same with ebay save your money up and get one it will be cheaper then a bike shop and buying new spokes in the long run.

when do spokes start to break because i'm going on 2 years now and not a one, i've popped tires and tubes but not a bad spoke

from my understanding as long as you keep the sprocket aligned perfectly and in good standing and chain in good standing and not beating everything you will have a good time..

i tried the clamp adapter and it kept on slipping and i tried everything to stop the slipping even tried a smaller one and the smaller one no fit because it was to small

I understand that some people have great luck with ragjoints i respect that it works for them i used my first motorized bike with a rag joint and it broke many of my spokes after a while and threw my wheel way out of true took it too a bike shop got it fixed and a sprocket hub adapter fixed my issues

As a bike mechanic I would say that when a rag-joints lasts it's because the wheel it was attached to has very tight and very even tightened spokes in other words a professionally built rear wheel with 14 gauge or heavier spokes that are stainless steel from DT or WheelSmith.

My own bike uses a ragjoint differently. I bolted the sprocket to a high flange hub with 8 holes in the flange, using the left hub flange holes as a shock joint using the 'rag' material as an isolation inside the holes, not unlike a rubber buffered motorcycle sprocket carrier. The front sprockets of all these HT engines are out of round some really seriously and this makes them a big liability because they constantly tighten and loosen the chain tension at over 1600 times a minute at 28 mph. You need to isolate this pulsating power so it doesn't break spokes.

We need to start asking the makers of these engines to make better quality sprockets.

Thanks guys I appreciate all of your advice! My problem is IAm no mechanic I cant get wheel aligned right think IAm gonna go with Luke's advice!

Their are success and failure stories with both types, and both generally work well with proper size to hub and proper installation procedures. Some hubs have slightly under sized spools, and some have cheap spokes or pressed on flanges. Even with good installation these can still fail. Read the size on the adapter and measure your hub for compatibility.

the 'rag joint' can be a pain- I found that when i installed it "properly" my chain would still hop off- later I realized that with the engine centered and the back sprocket as straight as I could get it (pretty straight) the two sprockets were not perfectly aligned, they were quite parallel but not in the same plane. what i could have done would be to use 9 or 18 or 27? washers between the sprocket and the rubber and may have had success. it would have been time consuming but I think I could have done it. fortunately at this point in my life i have a little more disposable income (but no time) so I sprung for the hub adapter- alignment was very fast and very easy with the adapter. I also drilled out the 44t sprocket that came with the kit to fit the hub adapter, so if you have the means to do that you could purchase only the adapter. Maybe you could start a "go fund me page"

whatever you decide- best of luck to you!

If you feel super ballzy you can tap it directly into this there are guides and even adapters, but i think a-lot of people would say NO don't lol
