A bike for finding tarantula and snakes.

I would suggest a 4 stroke predator engine mounted on the rear of the bike with a torque converter. Helps A TON to have a stick welder, which you can get for less than 150 dollars.. Animals are smart. They will hear the electric bike just as much as the gas bike, so it doesnt matter.

also a center stand even cheap one is so amazing... fixing chain alignments, flats, and etc is just so much easier.

Hey guys, I live in a town called Surprise Arizona, its a far northwest suburb of Phoenix. From my house I can drive 10 minutes (in a car) and be into the desert. I currently only have a car and I'm looking to build a bike that I could take down dirt roads to look for snakes and tarantula to photograph. I'm not interested in going fast at all, as its pretty easy to miss small insects when your going 20+ miles an hour. What I'm looking for is a bike that will be extremely reliable, have good torque to make it up relatively steep uphills, and something that could pull a small one wheel bike trailer to hold my camera, snake handling gear, and some food and water. I know this is a lot to ask from a bike, but I want to use a motorized bike because I could leave my house and go right into the desert (without getting a motorcycle endorsement on my license) and I want a project to work on.

My price range is under 700$ which gives me a good deal to work with. I'm currently looking at getting a 4 stroke 79cc monster 90 kit with the beach cruiser that comes with it. I'm planning on replacing the rims with gasbikes aluminum mag wheels that come with a 44T sprocket attached directly to the hub, I'd also plan on replacing the stock chain tensioner with gasbikes Arch Idler Pulley Chain Tensioner as ive heard the stock tensioner is kinda crappy. Right now that puts my full build at 560$. Are their any add on you guys would suggest or anything that you'd recommend doing differently?
Honesty, if you don’t plan on going fast, I would just buy a good mountain bike at Walmart ($150), get a 4 stroke engine kit with extended crank pedals ($160 on eBay), buy some good accessories for your bike like lights, a comfy seat, better throttle, rear view mirror, speedometer, basket, quality fuel line ergonomic grips, and cup holder ($50 or so), buy and mount a 48T sprocket for better torque ($15 on eBay), and a 3 liter gas tank since it’s way better quality than the trash Chinese one that comes with it and holds twice as much gas ($25 on eBay). Also carry some spare tubes so you don’t get stuck if you have a flat in the desert. At least in my opinion, you don’t need to go mounting huge 79cc or 212cc 4 stroke engines on a bike you don’t even want to go above 20 mph on. Not to mention that you’ll have to custom fabricate a lot of parts, run into a lot more issues getting everything to work properly, and that in some places (at least in Kentucky) anything above 50cc is considered a motorcycle and requires registration...

just my advice!

only issue with that is it is hard to find a mountain bike frame that will fit a 49cc HS. Actually, looking at it, it might be easier to find a mountain bike that fits a 79cc predator due to the orientation of the piston. A 212cc is definitely over a 49cc but the 79cc isn't that much bigger than the 49cc especially the way the engine piston is oriented and there are 49cc stickers specifically designed for it that you can put on the pull cord case. if you know how to weld, it is easy to just cut the top tube and bridge the engine gap. but, i mean not many of us can do that.

Seems like what would work better is a trike 4 stroke so you can pull up to a stop without bike falling over in the sand cruise real low to the ground. Also, a motorized bike will flip you on your ass when you hit a sandbar would not be any fun at all.

I lived Az when I was a kid if your interested Reptilians and spiders in hide I have got some experience would like to see on Zootube. If your into humanoid things.
Behind Superstitious Mt. there is a cave opening the cave is big enough for a car it runs all the way from their to the pacific ocean filled with freak look like people troglodytes been in it with Daddy long leg spider and his bro drove to the coast under ground be sure to bring some spare gas.
And if you want to film some big goddamn spiders carry a laser temperature gun when it's 100° outside and you get a reading back on jeckle in hide of 48° to 63° you are going to be in for a surprise!
To get the zoospect out it's hide is what the army made for me at age 3 was I call a clone buster an air conclusion gun. Mine was made out of brass tube about the size of a nickel you can make it larger has an off and on switch white speaker on export end about 12 inches long couple AA batteries a power supply and both ends hot wire metal I think was lithium about width and diameter of a nickel when 2 dissimilar metals are in contact when an electric charge is applied the 1 metal will repel it's self.
Well the army man handed it to me I went out scouting found a gang of guys that had rottenest mean personalitys single one rotten bastard point it at him hit the switch for 3 seconds not only did his clothes fall but also his skin and his head a huge black widow untangled its self from con touring it's Hyde the thing was over 25' in diameter I cried screamed ran home balled my head off for hours thinking with my magic wand turn this mean guy into a spider then realize he was a spider in hide. So that's a real good size tarantula like to see on YouTube if interested let me know. And always Spray for Jesus 🕷 to Save Your Soul.

Im going to try to unpack a few points in order:

I'm not opposed to a rear mounted system as long as I could still pull a small bike trailer with the rig. I dont know why but I haven't really looked into rear mounting systems.... maybe because in frame mount seems more common?.... I do think frame mount looks cooler for what its worth

I like idea of a fat tire bike but I Know that I couldn't fit a 49cc or 79cc without having to cut the frame on most fat tires. Welding wouldn't be out of the question on future builds but I don't think I want to have to alter the frame on my first build.

As far as engine size, the 79 cc vs 49 cc wouldn't make that much of a difference to me. As long as I could get up to say 18-20 mph. 49cc would make it street legal, 79cc would not be street legal but this bike would be spending verrry little time in residential areas so its not a huge concern to me. I guess in my mind I just assumed that a 79cc engine would be more likely to carry me and a bike trailer up a fair incline than a 49cc engine would.

I am still uncertain if inspector is trolling or actually thinks his dreams are showing him lost memories. This guy thinks his inner thoughts are other people "praying" to him. Ask him about his secret moon mission.

too consistent to be a troll. he is a great personality for sure. :)

When it comes to climbing, wheel size and sprocket size are a big factor. I've heard the onyx genesis 29" is a nice cruiser with big wheels. With this you could mount a sprocket bigger than a 44t and have good climbing. There are some affordable trike kits out there also that run 212 engines but have no experience with purchasing them. A guy close to where I am tricks them out with disc brakes and sells them.
