Hi all, im seeking some advice on a source for a trad Loop frame . Im after the HD / Indian type around 1910-15 era.
I know there are various guys in the US making them, but when you factor in freight, the $ add up fast.
Anyone in Aus making these frames?

Im in Hobart.

Indeed chainlube. As a Blacksmith and steel fabricator I do have the skills. What I would need are the detailed specs of these frames and I believe I could make them.

If you know what engine you are going to use, start there and design around that.
Ideally, the frame should be a standard spec so that more or less any engine can be mounted. Honda make a wide range of 4 stroke stationary engines from 25cc singles to 688cc v-twins of 22hp. (Imagine a honda v-twin in one!)

What im after is plans for the 1912-19 Indian frame AND / OR a set of lugs with or without the tubes.
The Leaf Spring Forks would be great too, but one of the Beach Cruiser front ends would also be acceptable for a Tribute bike.

Once I have that, I cam make a jig and potentially start pumping out frames.

Maybe search the net for frames for sale, aliexpress or amazon often have measurements of the parts they sell.

Im told frame builders can be pretty guarded with specs on their frames. I think my best bet is going to be a set of plans, tech drawings or original patent drawings.

Either that or a frame maker who is willing to send me an unassembled frame.

Find a used bike, you can cut the head tube and the crank assembly tube off. These are the 2 basic machined parts. The front fork, there was someone that modified one to look like a springer. Tubing, most is straight, but the loop, here I would get one bent by a muffler shop. A homemade pipe bender, would work, but for a one off frame, I wouldn't build one. Draw the look you want out on a sheet pf plywood. That plywood can be both your blueprint and your welding jig.

Thats good advice Herman, thank you! I managed to get hold of original patent drawings for the HD 1912-19 frame and forks today!
So between them and your good ideas here, I think this might work!

If you have any motorcycle used parts dealers in your area, you might also try to find used motorcycle rim ad tires that are very close to the same size as the bicycle tire and rim. This will usually come off of the Chinese cloned dirt bikes. This way you can use real motorcycle tires and brakes. A big safety issue.
