Hi Everyone, this is my first post here, and my first-post-ever dealing with anything related to motorized bikes. Here is my intro thread if you want to see what I have a for quick bio: https://motoredbikes.com/threads/hello-from-nh.59120/

Anyway, I have been thinking of building a cargo bike using an old tandem frame. I would like to be able to ride this the 6.5 miles from my house to the supermarket in town.

I would like to use the Predator 212 engine, with this torque converter kit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...title_huc_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2RB21RUGRFV4T

I would like to transfer that power to the rear wheel using a setup like this: https://www.pistonbikes.com/Motorized-bicycle-sprocket-adapter-for-rear-wheel-p/pssas.htm

To clarify what I intend to do, I drew a quick sketch to show where I was thinking would be a good place to mount the engine:

The proportions of my drawing are a little stretched, but you get the idea. I want something powerful enough to haul me to town and back with 50 pounds of groceries.

Do you guys feel like my plan will work? Will the components I've listed work together? Can anyone provide me with some websites that offer decent quality parts to facilitate this build? ANY AND ALL advice will be much-appreciated, and thanks for taking the time to help me.

Do you have hills to contend with?

Is so:

What is the % grade?

How frequently to you encounter hills?

How much do you weigh?

I pull a cargo trailer behind my bike. Sometimes as much as a 100 lbs is in it. The steepest hill I encounter on the way home is around a 10% grade. I can shift human/engine driven gears on my bike. I have no problem getting up the hill. My engine is a 33cc 4 stroke.

I weigh 230 lbs and the bike and trailer weighs around 120 lbs

No hills to speak of between me and town. I weigh 190lbs, about 13 stone, or about 86kg. I have a Bob trailer, which I may consider towing behind this bike if I need more hauling capacity.

I also want to add that the above design is rather flexible. I had a sweet tandem frame for this build, but in a moment of weakness, I sold it. If I can find another worthy tandem frame cheap enough, I'll go with it, but I'm also prepared to make a similar frame setup with the back half of one mtb frame and the front half of another.

Then you'll have no problem towing with an engine that big. I'm going to assume you'll be the captain, do you plan to ride a stroker any?

Heres how i go shopping here in Alamogordo...Food or otherwise, etc...I mounted the baskets onto a rear rack...They're baskets that were meant for the front handlebars I bought at WallyWorld...lol...Plus also have the rear carrier on top of the rear rack which also has fold out paniers that will extend out from each side for extra carrying storage if needed...the front handlebar roll is for the tools...DAMIEN

The design I got floating around in my head would be just a long cargo bike with baskets on the rear of it. There will be no stoker for this build. In fact, I dont plan on pedaling it much at all. I just want to actually be able to pedal it if I get noticed by the police. Around here, the local police won't bother you much for anything, but always good to play it safe.

As for the TAV, I'd like to recommend a real Comet https://www.gopowersports.com/comet-tav-30-75-torq-a-verter-12t-spkt-for-35-chain/
Go Power has them in 40/41 too but out of stock right now. I've used lots of those knock off TAVs, they work fairly well on a bike or mini-bike but struggle on a go-cart, break springs, burn up belts, etc..
