Help me pick a trany for my 142F

Mike, I seem to be full of questions. My big one is, what are you going to do if your clutch bell cracks?? I have been looking, with no luck, to find where anyone sells a replacement. Do you know exactly who makes this trans?? Is BGF Motors just the distributor?? Does this replacement clutch look like it might work?? It has 20 teeth but is riveted, rather than welded. Here again, more dimensions would sure be nice.

I've heard people say that these clutches engage too early. A common way to change the engagement RPMs of a clutch is to lighten the clutch shoes by removing metal from the shoe.
Lightening the clutch shoes In combination with changing the springs can also be done if ya find it necessary to fine tune the clutch engagement beyond what just changing springs can do.

How to lighten the shoes
A piece of metal can be cut off . A hole or holes can be drilled in the metal or the metal can be shaved with a grinder
Remove the metal material evenly on all shoes. But do not remove any of the shoe pad material.

You are not going to find the clutch bell, only the complete
drive for this ebay kit. Here's all the BGF 4 stroke parts for the
53cc kit on this page:

They have the clutch and the drive. Doubt the bell would crack, but
should there be a serious failure I would just buy the BGF belt drive. I took
so little off the bell housing, about 0.15mm to get the bushing in, I
don't see a cause for failure. My concern is how long the Oilite bushing
will last until it goes dry, which I don't know. Why don't you wait until
I do more testing, and stay with the bronze bushing. Just keep it
greased and adjust the belt tension. Who knows who makes these
kits in China? I don't. To answer your question, I don't see any
data or specs on this clutch, no ID given or what motor shaft it would
fit. It's all an ebay mystery.

and Mike, I totally agree with you regarding the initial boiling in oil for the Oil-Lite bushing. I thought the hole in the washer idea would be just to top it off every so often. I don't think it necessary to take it out and boil it again after the initial install.

My concern would be a stress crack between the holes in the clutch bell or around the center. We have all seen these pictures before. Who knows the quality of the China metal this is made from. Thank you for this link. I'll look at it after dinner.

Mike, I was hopeful when I read this link to all the parts you sent me, until I realized you stated 53cc and you really meant 49cc. You are
right. Apparently there are no replacement parts for your transmission at this time. Maybe in the future? The straight shaft bell has 9 holes and the tapered shaft bell has 4 holes. If the clutch bell fails maybe a good machine shop can tig weld a new bell onto that 20T cog. I can't tell without seeing it. If so, I would choose a bell with NO holes. Otherwise we would just have to spend $126 for a new transmission. This is what has me concerned. I really do not want to spend the really big bucks for the good stuff. Decisions-Decisions ?!.

If the Oilite Bushing comes in a factory sealed package it's fine just slap it in and use it.
If the Oilite Bushing comes in an unsealed package ya should oil it first before ya use it. Because ya don't know if the Bushing has come in contact with dirt and dust that might suck the oil out of it.
To re impregnate the Oilite Bushing, boil it in 30w or 40w oil for 10 mins then let it cool in the oil. Ya don't have to let it sit overnight.
To insure the Oilite Bushing will never seize on a shaft add some moly oil to the re impregnation oil.
Oilite also recommends for maximum performance to re impregnate the Bushing with oil every year or 10k miles.
 
So I think I can clear up or add to the confusion surrounding the Ebay 53cc Belt Drive Knock Off..... tonight, I rode it 5 miles to work and on one section, there's a short downhill part, so I gunned it and it felt like I hit the limiter, which 53cc motors are not supposed to have. The Plot thickens....
 
Unless you're talking specifically about the Grubee 53cc unlimited for $220, I
believe all these 4 strokes are rpm limited. I don't believe the 53cc
is going to perform much better than a 49cc without modding.
