Hey so I'm thinking do you replace working parts with new parts at mileage / time or when they break? For me I found myself doing a full overhaul on my 66cc cg around 1000 miles or 1.5 years it worked out to be. Reason clutch or bearing failure . still ran but clutch was stuck on with grinding sound. I was on original 415 chain and idler pulley, carb, bottom end, exhaust, and clutch. cdi I replaced just because at 750 miles but ran the ngk plug all the way to 1000 miles... top end 2 or 3 times because of c clip ear failure every 250 miles.

On this new cdh pk80 build, I did all the reliable upgrades. ngk plug, magnetic fuel filter, #41 chain, new idler, lock tight, HP head, open port jug, cw10 c clips for piston, but still reused some now 1000+ mile old parts, such as carb, exhaust, throttle cable, kill switch... as of now with 218 miles it will rip to 32+ mph but i cruise around 24-27 easy with great mid range power for hills.

what do you guys do for reliability?

I use a techometer/hour counter. Every 25 hours I change the oil and every 10 hours I clean the air filter. Every 500 hours I change the fuel filter. Every 1000 hours I change the spark plug. I've had my 4 stroke RS 35 for 11 years.

Modifications and General Maintenance of my Whizzer 4 stroke 138cc Flathead
The list is too long to explain what I have done and what I do to make her Bullet Proof.

You probably want to know about 2 strokes anyways
I'm sure some members will chime in shortly about 2 stroke maintenance and modifications to make your engine Bullet Proof

On my other build i had till May of 2020...it went for 5 yrs and 6,000 miles before the frame broke...The only thing i ever replaced on it was the clutch pads at 3,000 miles and a spark plug and clean my K&N look alike airfilter periodically as needed...i even have 6,000 miles on the tires as well which i kept as spares, If i ever need them, (I only use Kevlar tires, they wear like iron)...everything else worked just fine and i still have the engine but saving it only for parts if i can ever use them on my new build from last year which has only 900 miles on it right now...Im talking about a 2 stroker here, not a 4 stroker...Those 4 strokes will have different maintenance like oil changes etc.

Hey guys...hes talking a two stroker here, not 4 strokers like your glorified beasts...lol...He needs 2 stroke maintenance advice...lol...DAMIEN

My main thing I was pointing out is the techometer/hour counter for maintaining a maintenance schedule
I getcha on that...i figure that most 2 stroker builders tend to not get that fancy...hell, most of them i find dont even have a speedometer to measure miles and MPH, let alone a tach...lol...DAMIEN

The thing is you can get them on eBay as cheap as $10 US
Would that be anything like "Inspector" buying and having the proper tools for the proper job as he explained today, on a chain problem he is having ???...lol...

Some pre-cognizance, if you upgrade your Walmart chain splitter won't work chain is too big!
Is what I did was to take a fine hacksaw blade got as close to the pin cut thru the plate real careful no to damage the male link cut until 1/4 m then bent it back broke it off, then took a screwdriver blade pried on the remaining shrapnel pop it off-chain fell apart. That pin is cobalt enforce allow steel resist filing unless you have a grinder.
