Jag's cdi is NOT best suited for a true performance engine build, it's only good upto 9k rpm and craps out after that. The bike berry cdi's strike and lightning strike are just copies of Jag's without the curve settings and to be honest still have too much advance, the super charged cdi (pill bottle) from Jake Busey is much better suited because the base timing is lower and the single curve drops lower at 10k and above, I use the super charged cdi they are only 20 bucks then I get a buddy to replace the cap and do what he does so that when tested at 10k the timing fires at around 8 degrees btdc instead of 30+ for a stock unit and around 20 on the strike units, moped and scooter engines have much better ignition systems that use inductive pickup/trigger with built in curve better suited to higher rpm as they can turn 11-12k easily. The older Yamaha pw 80 cdi works well (pre 2003) as it's a wire loop system same as ours and has a suited curve. There are alot of schematics online to make your own cdi just have to do some research to see what would best suit your needs.
