Oregon's laws seem to be more focused on motorized scooters, the biggie is operation of a moped or scoorter on a bike path marked "no motorized vehicles" with the exception that if the scooter or bicyle is being walked or pedaled then it's OK. Operation of a MB on roads is covered by a mix of the motorized foot scooter law. 34cc's max and 24 mph top speed. and the Oregon bicycle rider's handbook with heavier focus from LEO's on how much of a hooligan you're being on the road. Short version. Don't be a jerk, yield to pedestrians, obey road signs, use hand signals, operating muffler, protection and helmets.

How are the laws down under? Are they getting friendlier? With he green movement you'd think motoredbikes would be encouraged. What harm can a 30mph bicycle do as to needing a DL, reg, ins?
It varies from state to state in Australia. Generally it's 200Watts max for gas powered motorized bikes, but in some states they're illegal. Ebikes however, are allowed 250Watts max!

The wiki tools are not working for editing, Here's a snippet of the .pdf from the Oregon ODOT vehicle handbook:

Oregon Moped, Motorized-scooter, Pocketbikes

These rules were researched by Gone Fishin' back in 2013 here in Oregon, and are more applicable. Frankly, IMO we should just adopt California's rules they have a better handle on the technology.

Thanks Lewie, I've added Oregon. Please check over it to make sure I've added everything correctly.

Thanks Anton, One thing is the power = 35cc. It's quaint that our state thinks a 35 cc engine will have less power than a 48cc HT engine. I believe the HT are close to about 1.6 h.p. or so. Mine climbs the hill out of Winchester Bay at about 17 mph, the 30cc McCollough weedie friction drive does the same hill at about 15 mph, and I think the friction wheel is slipping a small amount.

Hi Lewie just added in Florida. Seem you need to see DMS so they can look at and give you a vin number so you can get a plate , if it gets the ok. They consider it a moped 50cc and under , over 50cc it's a motorcycle .

a good majority of those are DWI repeat offenders with license penalties
That is the biggest reasons most states have when they start doing hard regulaltions against motorised bicycles because some of those DWI guys take a crap bike and literally just throw a crap motor on them with zero attempt to even make them look safe and might as well hang a neon sign on them saying "Bust Me, Im riding this because of my DWI".

Serious riders not trying to skirt the laws, make something decent out of them where they look good, ride good, and obviously took time and care to make them as safe as possible and it shows.

The only times ive gotten pulled over is by "rookie" cops that don't know me in town all because they really want to look at what i built because it is so much different from what the DWI and drug offenders in my town have built, and it shows...DAMIEN

Update chart for Florida:

2HP is limit AND 50CC or less. "Bike lane" (street) allowed and required if safe for car to pass and you are slower. No Gas motorbikes on "bike path" or sidewalks.
