Hello everybody. I recently assembled my first motorized bicycle kit that I got from Ebay, and I tried starting the engine. The engine ran as long as the clutch was not being pressed in, meaning the engine was still attached to the wheels. As soon as I pull the clutch in to come to a stop, the engine dies. I checked the spark plug, and nothing seems to be wrong with that. I adjusted the idle screw, but that did nothing either. Nothing is stuck in the carburetor, or in the intake. The last thing left on my bucket list to check is the gasoline : oil ratio. It's a new engine, and I may have added a little bit too much gasoline for the break in process; I was in a rush as it would be raining the next day(today) and I kinda eyeballed it. Any tips on getting the engine started? I've scoured the interweb for pretty much all afternoon today, and the only other issue I found that it could be is a problem with the crankshaft bearings. Recommendations are much appreciated.

Thanks in advance! Paavan127

Cool thanks guys I will definitely start checking post dates. Im sorry for rehashing old topics. My bad.
It's all good, a 4 month old thread isn't that old. Besides you reminded us about gas tank venting.
Small reminders like your's are always welcome.
Gas tank (cap) venting can be easily overlooked and can become a Phantom problem for some.

Look guys, it's obvious that some of these threads / posts / responses / answers / etc etc are 'old' but I don't see the harm in continuing in some of these discussions as knowledge is priceless. Regardless of whatever the vintage, information in relations to the solutions to many of our technical 'issues' has no expiry date, so even if the instigator of the thread has already solved the original issue, it does not hurt for others to share with everybody else their own solution/s and experiences in a constructive manner.... .anyways, that's my 5 cents worth.

Moderator Note:
The problem is when you go off topic on an older thread like you have on your post after this one.
Its a nice tip or trick but is now lost in an older thread on an engine trouble issue rather than standing out on its own as a neat "little trick" "for the few uninitiated on this area".
This is your 4 cents change for your "5 cents worth".

Now, this probably has technically nothing to do with what we're talking about here, but since it's to do with the ignition system, then I guess it doesn't hurt to throw it into the mix.....

Now.... please refer to the attached photo - you guys probably already know about this little 'trick' but someone was gracious enough to show it to me when I didn't know about it so I guess this is for the few uninitiated on this area : when installing the stator.....

After installing the rotating magnet onto the crankshaft, before tightening down the four screws that secures the stator onto the crankcase, I place two pieces of thin cardboard at the two closest points between the magnet & the stator to act as spacers to physically eliminate any possibility of actual contact. The cardboard will obviously be removed after the four screws are tightened down with low-strength liquid threadlock.

Your correct, your post "has technically nothing to do with what we are talking about here".
This might have made a good tutorial in its own right, but instead, it is now lost in a thread where someone may not find it because it is off topic.

If this is an old thread why is it listed on the front page it should be put in an archive so that only new threads are available to read.
You on a phone too? When on my pc i dont get old posts showing up on the new post menu. When on my phone they pop up all the time. Just ask damien, he probably thinks im a voodoo lord making zombies ive dredged up such old threads. Lmao. If he wouldn't have said something, id never have known they were so old. 😆. Only happens on my phone though. I look a little more careful now, i was never cast in the walking dead. 😆
