I posted a few days ago that my standard bike rim walls kept forming cracks and splitting apart, and I'm now needing to buy and install my 3rd wheel in just over a year.

You guys informed me it's the brake pads chewing through the wall, and suggested I upgrade to Mag wheels with disc brakes.

So... I just got my new Mag wheel and disc brake, and I'm having a hard time finding any detailed instructions or videos online for how to convert to this new setup. Hopefully this post can be used as reference for others having the same trouble.

Now that I have the wheel, I can not see how the heck the rear sprocket is supposed to be mounted on the wheel. Supposedly the Mag wheel I purchased is made for motorized bikes, but of course, it does not come with instructions.

Do I need some sort of adapter for the sprocket?

Any help is appreciated, and I'm sure others would find the answers useful as well.

It's hard to see but there is a spacer that gives you barley enough room to clear the gear and get your caliper disc brake on. I got this from the bike ferry you might want try them so you can go disc, forgot what it's called.

Yeah its aluminum
Being an aluminum frame, this may prove to be a difficult problem to overcome.

Besides the spacer needed between sprocket and rotor, read the following below as to what i needed to do with my bike to fit the wheel in between the rear fork.

On my bike, (steel frame), i had to "stretch" the rear forks apart by hand, about 1/2 an inch to put the rear wheel with sprocket/rotor attached, and then use a spare 15MM axle nut on the sprocket/rotor inside of the drop down, threaded to the axle with blue locktite, to maintain that amount of "stretch" to accommodate the amount of of clearance space the rotor needs so as not to be pressed against the frame.

We need some of the aluminum bike guys to chime in as to how much hand stretch can be done on aluminum, if at all...DAMIEN

My rear frame flexes quite a bit, so hopefully its not a problem.

Still waiting on a few parts, but I plan on writing a review of my experience installing the Mag wheel here when I'm done. Really isn't enough info regarding this topic on the net, and it's almost a necessary upgrade imo.

There are lots of spoked wheels with disc brake mounts now, you don't need to get the mags.
