Newbie here. 1st build. Not my first bike, but my first motorized bike. And thank you to all of you I have some great tips and resources already. Seriously. I loved looking through the search tools.

Yes, I have named the bike already. Its a bad sign, I know.

Anyway. Rather than take my existing "Track-like" or mountain bikes, I found a great deal on a Kent "Fixe". Which is fine, I like the color and the standard rims. I know, its cheap trash. But perfect for a cheap, "zero fabrication" bike I want to build.

The bike and the "small engine" lend itself to recreating the look of an "ye olde timey" motorbike. I can find the parts and have learned a lot about buying the motor and the stuff I will need to get and do to get a kit working well. Really, just changing the handle bars will do most of it. Don't worry, I have my eye on a different gas tank. Those little peanut tanks are not my jam.

But I want a springer front fork. So, I'm looking for information on springer front ends for this bike. So has anyone had any experience with these inexpensive springers I see on ebay and amazon?

Also, I have seen the tanks sold by Sportsman Flyer and they don't seem to have anything for a straight, single top bar. I am thinking of using a seat-mounted tank. Anyone have experience with them?

If this is not a builder forum, or place to ask these questions, let me know.
Thanks.

well, may I say welcome to the forum!

fell free to ask questions anytime, that's what forums are for right ;)

for springer forks, some people love them, some hate them. (i personally prefer a ridged frame anyway)

as for the fixie bike, does it have a freewheel on the other side? if so, you might not be able to make it work (as that's where the engines sprocket supped to go)

for a first kit, id recommend the cheapo 80cc 2 stoke kits as there a good platform to start with, can be found on ebay for less than 100$

Yeah, its set to free wheel. In all truth, I have never seen one configured as an actual fixe, other than my other one. Since I'm not afraid of wheel braking, I have set my other bike, occassionally, true fixed. But 99% of the time, people set them to freewheel and put on the brakes. Which is why this seemed ideal for what I want.

I got a couple of 80cc kits already bookmarked. I also have a better tensioner bookmarked. I want to purchase all the items so they arrive at roughly the same time. I would rather have a rideable bike than a project that languishes for parts.

I've always wanted a springer, so I'm going to have one. I just want to choose a good one.

keep in mind you need a wheel to mount the sprocket to (it goes on the side of the fixie sprocket is on) and that can cause issues of it not working (due to clearencing)

Don't think he is going to reply...He was "one and done" with three posts for only a week on the forums...lol...If you looked at his last post and looked at the date on the post, you would have seen this as well as hovering your mouse cursor over his avatar, you would have seen that today begins 7 months of not seeing him here...lol...DAMIEN

Sometimes in the Caribbean people come back with the help of a voodoo master. How do we know for sure there is not a voodoo master among us? We may never know. The op could have died on his bike from hooking the wrong side of the fixie up. We may never know if it was death by bike or capture from a voodoo master.
