Greetings! I am new to the forum and got the motorbike bug reminiscent of my younger days and decided to go all in. I have all of the components on order and have reached out to DMV and got all the forms and a good contact person via email. At first I thought it might not be possible and then after reading endless details of the statute and demands of the forms, it might well be doable.

I know it will take me quite a while to make the initial build with all of the required safety equipment, but I want those bells and whistles anyway for my safety. I have no idea what to expect when I send all of the pictures and complete all of the documents which are required to be approved before you can even make the appointment for inspection (which is located a 2.5 hour drive from my home).

My plan is to provide a detailed picture diary and update on the paperwork process so others can follow.

Before all the fun begins (I have the motor 48CC and under 2 hp and the motor ready bike in hand so far) has any forum member done this or tried to do it (here in Florida) and if so how did it go?

Thanks,

Dennis

I've been to the DMV Regional Office here in Central FL to get the RS-68 paperwork. But, after 2+ years, have yet to make the actual appt with the bike.
I think the only tough part with the build is the brake light requirement for both front, and rear, brakes.
How do you plan on tackling that obstacle?? Any ideas yet?

They make brake levers with wiring & switches built into the levers, there pretty slick, I'm going to use them on my bike when I get to that point, you could also use a inertia switch also, if you didnt want to go brake lever way.

Exactly... just received a dual brake lever with break light switch! Both disc brakes activated and switch on rear brake light. Also note that YELLOW lights are ok for brake lights. So I am using red clusters for tail lights and yellow led clusters for brake lights.. that is the plan.

I have hydraulic brakes. Are those for mechanical, disk, or both?
I'd like to see what you've got, do you have a link?

Wouldn't it make more sense to use red for the brakes? Or is not ok to use yellow for taillights?

I've got an brake light activated by an accelerometer now, but not sure it will pass muster at the DMV.

I'll take a pic of what I got in the morning if I can remember where there at.

Not sure why you'd want to use yellow for brake lights. But, whatever floats your boat.

This is not the brake lever I got, i believe this is what insight3fl is referring to, it's a dual pull brake lever for a quad runner with mechanical cable pull brakes. I might order it for my bike as it would clean up the handle bars.
