Diary of My "Moped" build Registration in Florida

Here are a couple of the wiring harness photos. I used two sizes of the "Alex Tech" plastic woven wire loom.. it expands two times it's diameter. I used 1/4 for most of the harness with 6 wires in it. For the control switch (handle bar mount with mirror bracket, high beam, horn and turn signals) i used the 1/2 inch size since I had an 8 wire shrouded cable from the control switch merging with the 6 wire bundle from the rear light assembly. The stuff is great if you have the patience to manipulate it and move it along by compressing it.

Looks good! I've always wondered what they called that style of wire loom. Hope your inspection goes good when you get to that point.

I digress.... before I even started assembling my bike, I wanted a stable stand for it. I found a U-tube channel of a fixit guy who had this well designed (though could be simpler) bike stand front and rear. (I decided not to build the rear yet) It even disassembles for storage... Working very well for me including while up on the assembly bench.

I ordered what I thought was a nice Blackburn back rack (wanted one with the deck to act as a rear fender) to mount my rear light assembly to. This one had a very adjustable mounting system to fit most bikes and indeed it was great. Except for the cheap tack weld on the deck to the frame which popped off as soon as I tried to bend the rear tab a bit to mount might lights.

I ended up drilling through it to the frame and pinning it down with bolts. Worked great. Wrote to Blackburn and they immediately apologized, said this model was discontinued and they would send me a replacement (their standard heavy duty rack) at no charge and keep the defective one.

Great service from a great old company. Wish BikeBerry was any where near as good on service as they were.

My first hassle with Bikeberry came when I put the bike together and found that the pictures and description of the bike on the website are not what they ship. No rear caliber brakes, disc. No fork tube bolted bracket, held in place by the handlebar bracket. You need two people or four hands.

The big issue was the frame was supposed to have the built-in mounting brackets which it did not. I know many folks don' t like the welded on front bracket. So I contacted BikeBerry and after a day or two of photos and emails, they agreed to provide a CNC front mount. Great except it turned out to be back ordered and after three weeks I still don't have it. I had to buy my own. Then after installing it, the next issue came up.

The stock muffler hits the bracket and will not attach flush to the manifold. And to top it off, the left mounting bolt on the engine was not treaded all the way in which I solved with washers. But even with it installed and pressing against the bracket, the left crank arm will not clear. So, I am going to need to bend it or get a different muffler before I take it in for inspection.

Insight3fl are them Blackburn racks as nice as some guys are saying they are? I've been looking at the chrome rear rack with the solid wood insert, it's like a surfers edition. But damn at $120-$140 for a rear rack kinda turns me off.

Don't know about that model (don't see it on their website). But I have their original design on my schwinn since 1988 and it is perfect except for some rust on a couple of rivets that holds the deck on (not welded like the new Chinese one that failed)

The next issue I ran into was the fuel petcock connection. The stock cheap one and the $20 one I got suckered into buying from BB do not fit (the expensive one is too long, the stock one is short enough without the internal filter) but neither of them will thread into the tank. I had heard the frame tank had proprietary threads... not sure if that is the issue or it was not tapped properly. I have a new one being delivered today from MZ Miami that they claim "fits their gastank frame bike", which is the old verson of the frame with the engine mounts, not the new version that BB sold me. Hopefully it will fit. If not, Any suggestions? Some have said to re-tap it but I don't know what size tap to use and dont want to ruin the tank as it is obviously part of the frame

Use a remote fuel shut off, put a barb in the tank with a short piece of hose on the end and then a petcock with a hose to the filter and carb.
