New 2-stroke engine won't start

What I was going to say when referring to the BP6HS is that is the plug type I run on mine, I’m running the BP5HS. Even with the extended tip it’s no where near the piston.
 
Yeah I opened it up and took the jug off too.

You're right that there's no way the piston was hitting the spark plug, so must have been a foreign object.

There were tiny particles of metal on the piston, but nothing obvious that could have those indentations I showed.

Weird thing is it looked like there hadn't been any combustion at all in there. Spark plug was clean, and no carbon residue anywhere

I don't know if you did a pre-installation inspection or not, but some nicks and gouges come from handling at the factory. Your nick could have been there all along and you just never noticed until it wouldn't start.
 
True, that's entirely possible.

I'm going to check the compression again. Went to the automotive store today to see if they had a compression meter, but none in stock, so I ordered one for Monday.
