Surprised me that bicycle shop couldn't get him what he needed. But then one of the employees couldn't even remove a freewheel lol

They got a good bike shop not far from me, great bike shop. They had a guy there that could lace any type spoke pattern you cud dream of. Awesome guy at building & trueing wheels, then they had to let him go. Worst mistake the bike shop ever made.

I've had them on really tight on the LandRider. However, I've found the heavy-duty vise trick and freewheel removal tool to work best with 2 people. By pumping the tire up it gives you something soft to grip.

What I now do with a brand new bike is I'll remove the freewheel and grease the threads. Then put it back on. I've taken freewheels off of bikes years latter with no problem at all by myself, that I've greased the threads on years earlier.

Did you by chance put in a cro-molly axle? Generally broken spokes are an indicator your factory axle has bent.

I don't have broken spokes. I didn't change the axle.

My highest gear is 14 tooth and I hardly ever use it. There is no real power in this thing past 5th gear. Gear 6 and 7 are only used on super flat or downhill roads and with a speed limit of 25 in my state (for motorized) and no real interest in going past 35 mph I have no need to change the gearing. I can also go up the steepest hill I know of at about 15 mph in my first gear.

My total weight (bike/rider/pulled load) is between 340-540 lbs with up to 30% grade hills to contend with. Though I never pulled any loads with the LandRider. Now maybe my weight and the steep hills contributed to both bikes getting bent stock axles. I will say replacing them with cro-molly axles fixed the problem.

WOW...Thats really, really, heavy...Mine comes in combined at only 297 pds and here i thought i was pushing it when it came to weight...lol.
